Title: Expectations
Fandom: House
Characters or Pairing: Cameron
Rating/warnings/spoilers: G/none/episode tag for 'Love Hurts'
Word Count: ~230
Summary: She should have expected this.
Expectations
No you won't make a mess of me mess of me mess of me
For you're as blind as a man can be man can be man can be
Cameron isn't going to cry, not over this. Because it's not like it was unexpected and it's not like she wasn't ready for him. She's seen the way he looks at her, knows how she feels and how he has to feel as well. You'd have to be a blind idiot not to see it, and he's neither. So she just has to wait, be patient and wait for him to catch up. Despite what he said, she's sure he will.
But that doesn't explain why her head aches from more than just the wine and why her stomach aches and her eyes sting. It's stupid and pointless to feel like this, to give into the hurt when she knows it's going to be alright in the end. She presses her face into the pillow, telling herself that this doesn't help, that it's completely pointless to fell like this. So maybe she overplayed the hand a little, but House has never been one for the subtle approach. Laying it all out was supposed to help, supposed to make it clear for him, to at least make him think.
She hadn't expected the calm, analytical list and the cold rejection. She hadn't expected the cool intensity or steady gaze that saw everything exactly the way he wanted it. And she hadn't expected it to hurt so much.
