Seriously, what is it with the weather at the moment? We had 4 glorious days (or thereabouts) and now? It's raining so hard on the windowed roof of the library that it's hard to hear youself thinking in the main reading room. Apparently the weather doesn't know that the library is a silent study area :S Still, we're water-tight for the moment, so that's something. The readers, on the other hand, are arriving looking like they waded through swollen rivers to get here.

[livejournal.com profile] white_hart, [livejournal.com profile] dyddgu, if it's still like this at lunchtime, I might be staying in the staff room...

In other news, I slept last night. Yes, yes, I know, generally that's news on a par with 'water wet, sky blue (or, you know, grey)' but for me at the moment that's HUGE. A whole night's sleep! From about 11pm to 5am. JOY! I also have some feedback on my Big Bang which makes me giddy-happy. I LOVE getting nit-picky notes where people make me really *think* about what I wrote and whether I meant it, and how I can re-write it so it works for both/all of us. Editing is much for fun than writing for me, which is probably why I plan to scrap the last chapter and start over. Nearly there! And we've had so many stories and so much art in already that it's AWESOME :D

No list today, because there's so much to do it seems largely pointless - I could do something off it by the time I've finished typing it! Instead, let me recommend Zoo Borns to you again and show you what I got in my email this morning. Brace yourselves for the cute + bonus bird picture )

How's everyone doing out there? Less damp than Oxford, I hope! And just think, we're a day closer to the weekend. Woot!

Dear Sky,

HOW CAN YOU STILL BE RAINING??? We've had an ocean's worth of water dumped on us today. Wasn't that enough for you? I have to cycle home in an hour and a half and I am Not Amused by your continual torrents.

Enough already.

No love
Me

PS. In an email to the other half I meant to type EPIC RAINFALL and ended up with EPIC RAINFAIL. I think the latter would be more accurate if the weather wasn't succeeding at making everything so damn wet.

In better news, I had a lovely coffee with knitting folks this lunchtime* and the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] white_hart has leant me a laptop so I won't be out of touch next week hardly at all. Given how fragile I've been lately, I'm thinking this is a good thing, although I may use Twitter to take notes since it's more subtle during a talk.

Also, I am breaking my writer's block by using a great big red pencil to write with. I always write by hand when I get stuck, but for some reason, the crayon-y feel of the pencil is immensely comforting and making me less scared about ditching a couple of hundred words to make the story work. This makes me happy :)

*I don't knit, but they do, and very nicely too.

If you want an idea of what I looked like after cycling back from work, you can replicate this in your own home!

#1. Go to your kitchen/bathroom and fill a sink/the bath with cold water.
#2. Find a kitten/puppy/furry animal/small child
#3. Dunk #2 in #1
#4. For the full effect, then hold in front of a fan and bounce up and down (my bike has minimal suspension)

Of course, this can't replicate the pedestrians, other cyclists and cars I had to dodge while cycling through the pouring rain with drops on my glasses obscuring my vision and one eye swollen and tearing because I seem to be allergic to the library, but you get the idea.

In other news, Criminal Minds folk, there's a discussion of the episode LDSK over at [livejournal.com profile] criminalxminds here. I've kicked things off but it'd be great to have more contributors this week. As a mod, there's nothing more dispiriting than a discussion post with no actual discussion on it.

And now I'm going to stop spamming you and go make dinner. And find another towel...
