Someone asked me the other day where I get my ideas from. I gave the usual answer that everyone who writes gives (everywhere, my head, having my eyes open etc etc).

The one thing I didn't consider?

That at some point I might not actually *have* any ideas. At that point, not knowing where you get your ideas from becomes a huge, huge problem because you can't find your way back there...

So. Anyone got any SGA plot bunnies that need a good home? Or care to give me a suitably insane prompt (because if I can be inspired by the MS Office paperclip, I can be inspired by anything)? I have ideas for both my Torchwood stories, but this one?

*watches tumbleweed roll past*

Help me, obi wan friends-list. You're my only hope!

Well, I have this SGA AU wip that's been sitting on my HD for 2 years now with Rodney as a hot shot lawyer and John looking him up to help him fight a case against his former employer over some stolen ideas for some plane or something like that.

Then there's the other AU wip set in the dueSouth universe where Rodney's a Mountie and John a cop.

Hmmm... :P

*giggle* I think you're much more qualified to write the first one than me. And possibly the second since I haven't seen DS in years.

I really like the sound of the first one, though - I'm intrigued that you chose that way round rather than John as the laconic lawyer with the stressed-out client, Rodney.

Rodney as a mountie is going to make me fall off my chair giggling if I'm not careful...

LOL! I think it was inspired by a challenge back then. It was something along the lines of "bring the character to work with you" or something like that. Quite a few interesting AUs popped up from that challenge. :D

Here's a snippet of Rodney as mountie (http://in-the-bottle.livejournal.com/316755.html#cutid1) fic. Yeah, part of that is actually posted behind a flocked post a while back. ;)

It's no Office Paperclip, but you never know. :)

Now my brain is trying to make Rodney the mountie who has to ride a sheep instead of a horse because of government cutbacks...

your brain is a strange, strange place.

I heartily approve :)

Hee. I don't deny it, but in this case it's the even more strange brains of Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the guys who make South Park, who take the blame. There was an episode that was a parody of the Wizard of Oz, where "Oz" was Canada, the Mountie was the tin man (he wanted to ask the Prime Minister for a horse), etc. *g*

Hi,

I can't really help with the plot bunnies (esp. SGA), however what I've been known to do is ask for prompts (or offer to write a fic to cheer someone up with their prompts - mind you it's taken this long, I hope she's feeling better...)

But yeah, prompts have helped me!

Hee - that's what I'm doing! Although I admit, most people don't ask for "suitably insane prompts"...

So? Care to give me one? Anything? Something suitably insane? ;)

I'm going to follow form and throw lyrics.

"Yes, I am a pirate, 200 years too late
The canons don't thunder, there's nothing to plunder
I'm just an over 40 victim of fate
Arriving too late."

You mean you want something more off the wall than Clippy? Huh... I will have to think about this.

*giggle* Well, I got a good story out of it... Although Becky just gave me a pirate prompt (*points upwards*) so goodness knows what could come of that...

But all prompts happily received, insane or sensible :)

*g* See, my mind pretty much defaults to PIRATES!!!! COOL!

There are days when my brain proves that I am, in fact, 12...

I'm just going to quitely be working on my 'list o quotes' at the top of my journal and stealing from music to do it. And there's nothing wrong with being 12.

When you're writing 2 main characters who pretty much default to that age, it's a definite advantage.

Damn, I need a NaNo mix...

When in doubt, add chocolate. I'm sure the SGA crew would be able to do something with a nice bar of Green and Blacks.

The dialogue prompts I posted for the [livejournal.com profile] housefic_meta "One Hour, One Story" writing exercise might be useful in another universe as well:

"You're a horrible liar."

"Have you found what you're looking for?"

"Here we go again."

"She was calling your name."

"Yeah, that's a relationship they'll build monuments to."

"This is not a choice."

"Whose thumb are you using in this fabled rule of thumb?"

"I remember when you bought that."

"Hey, take it easy!"

"It'd be better for my health if you stayed away from me."

"You mean this could get worse?"

"Come on! Who doesn't like birthdays?"
