Good morning, people. Thanks to everyone who dropped in yesterday to offer sympathy or to get over-excited about writing with me. I'm still over-excited today, and I'm still alright, although my shoulder's hurting quite a lot more. It's not bad, just nagging, so I'm going to see how I go. Certainly typing isn't great for it, but at least I don't have to shelve books as well.

Speaking of books, I heard the piece on the Today programme about this on my way into work and thought it would be of interest to the flist:

Eunoia

"Eunoia is the shortest word in English containing all five vowels - and it means "beautiful thinking". It is also the title of Canadian poet Christian Bok's book of fiction in which each chapter uses only one vowel.

Mr Bok believes his book proves that each vowel has its own personality, and demonstrates the flexibility of the English language. Below are extracts from each chapter."

It's fascinating. Very, very odd, but fascinating.

Something else that caught my eye this morning was this short piece about 'darkness' in modern arts (particularly films). Some food for thought there, definitely.

Anyone else read/seen/heard anything interesting? I don't get out and about on the net nearly as much as I should, so I'm cheating and getting my flist to bring the net to me! Anything you think should be shared?

I'd offer you a shoulder massage, but you're a bit far away... Hope it feels better soon - comfrey oil is good for massaging on sprained/sore joints if you're anywhere near a herbalist/health food shop. Failing that, Deep Heat works wonders :)

That vowel thing is very odd. I have to admit, I did read it and think 'he only pulled that off because English spelling is so nonsensical'. Our vowels represent so many sounds, so as you're reading you 'hear' the variation.

The thing about 'dark' is also interesting - I have to admit, I'm quite a fan of dark films and novels, and the last time I checked I'm not a 24 year old man who plays video games... Having said which, I like dark in the sense of 'film noir' not in the sense of 'relentlessly depressing because Daniel Craig looks pretty when he pouts' ;)

I'm off for a rummage on the intarwebs myself; I'll let you know if I find anything interesting...
