All exterior walls in the Medina are some shade of pink - it's part of the laws to preserve the heritage.

We were mostly very careful about what we ate, because while the locals have immunity to the various bugs, we don't really. But we read all the guide books and took advice and everyone was really helpful while we were out there, so that made things easier :)
