I think I slid to work rather than walking this morning. Although it rained overnight, it doesn't seem to have made much difference to the ice or snow levels. On the plus side, this means that our snow duck is still standing. On the downside, I looked like I was entering an ice-dancing competition. It wasn't gold medal winning standard, but at least I didn't fall over.
Just adding to my sense of morning bafflement (how can we have rain AND ice?) was the following review [the punctuation is the reviewer's, not me leaving things out, BTW]:
That was pretty good. Not to be rude or anything, but the whole thing was kinda random...I guess I kinda liked it though...
There was more to the review, asking if I'd seen the Torchwood trailer and why everyone calls the Pterodactyl Myfanwy, but the above was the bit that got me. The story in question was Master of His Fate, my Cyberwoman tag. Not my best story, I'll admit, but that review is way more random than usual. Since there wasn't much else I could say, I explained that the name came from the BBC website and thanked the reviewer for reading. Ah, the Pit of Voles. It's nice to know some things don't change.
In other news, I went to my Slimming World group last night after a few weeks off and had a great time. I always forget how much I enjoy it, plus I love helping out and meeting everyone. Our group has a shiny new computer system for signing everyone in, and I got to press buttons and do complicated computer-y things which was great. I've set myself some goals for where I want to be by Easter (back in control of what I eat would be nice) and am going to try to remember to sign into Facebook to keep track of everyone. I'm also putting this here so that when it's raining and cold and dark next Monday and I don't want to go, I can come back here and remind myself why I do want to really!
How's everyone else this morning? I have a terrible case of writer's block (or writer's rubbish in my case - I can write, but it's all drivel) and am in need of more coffee, but am otherwise pretty good. The sun has come out and the field outside my window is practically glowing in the light, which is definitely uplifting for the spirit. Oh, and I'm going to find myself a fandom-neutral mood-theme, since I'm definitely in the grip of fannish drift and want something I can use for everything. Anyone got any suggestions?
Whether it's too hot or too slippery, be careful out there, okay?

Date: 2009-02-10 01:43 pm (UTC)Glad you made it to work! It's rainy and too warm here today, so no wonder I slept so badly. (Not to mention a low pressure front on top of estrus makes kitty Crazy...) On the bright side, that's more time in the morning for reading fic.
a fandom-neutral mood-theme
Ducks! Or flowers. Or... clouds? I'm not sure how all of those would express mood, but somehow I bet it could work.

Date: 2009-02-10 01:50 pm (UTC)Hee. I was hoping people might have seen some somewhere that they thought I might like. It's going to take me a while otherwise ;D Ducks would be very cool though. Maybe I'll have to look into making one for myself!

Date: 2009-02-10 01:55 pm (UTC)My body is somewhat detached or surrounded by cotton wool... I blame Paul McKenna! I don't sleep well so I'm trying his book & CD I Can Make You Sleep, the book so far has been stuff that makes sense like not drinking caffeine after a certain time but I used the CD last night for the first time and this morning I just couldn't open my eyes and focus and my body feels fuzzy lol. So, that's probably more than you wanted to know.
That review is infinitely more random than any fic lol. Some reviews make me laugh (like the one I had that said I should warn people my fic was going to be a threesome... firstly it's poly (there's no sex) secondly, it was several chapters after it first indicated it was going that way that they wrote it lol - admittedly it was my bad because it was the one place that I hadn't used the warning).
Well done on your skating effort, it's always good to stay upright and I bet you were better than Todd Carty lol.

Date: 2009-02-10 01:59 pm (UTC)*sigh* I wouldn't mind feeling fuzzy if I'd actually slept, but I periodically get bad insomnia, and was awake every couple of hours overnight *yawn*
Heh, you do wonder sometimes whether people are actually *reading*, don't you? I swear people are getting more and more random...

Date: 2009-02-10 02:10 pm (UTC)That was just the first night, he says it can take a few nights to notice any difference. I know I'm in a lot less pain than usual but I wouldn't recommend trying to drive as I am now, usually I only get this fuzzy after several doses of strong painkillers lol. I'm a bit worried that if it works what it'll do to my fic plotting because the insomniac hours are when I do the most lol.
Sometimes I think they're reading something completely different to what you've written. Of course, there are times when I've actually reread my own fic just to check that I hadn't missed something lol.
The mood themes were more than likely seen when I was going through the recs you put up, but can't remember where.

Date: 2009-02-10 02:52 pm (UTC)You can have mine? I don't actually use it, except to have a unified set of pictures on my friends page, though they are all based on characters I've written at some point, fan or original. Dunno. Images here if you want them (all labeled, since I'm not sure I can share the theme itself, the editor doesn't have an option to do that).

Aww, Pit Reviewers. They warm my heart even as they sometimes make my blood pressure sky rocket. Although that's a special shade of clueless/rude there, rather than people saying that genfic didn't have "enough slash" for them.
My morning is... um, disgruntled. I'm about to my limit on bitterness and anger that keeps cropping up on my f'list on what it appears, to be one subject (over and over and over.) I'm considering filtering, psych meds, or a sabbatical. I'm thinking the first one is probably the cheapest, but it makes me sad to have to consider it.

Date: 2009-02-10 03:16 pm (UTC)Do Not get me started on my Gen rant here and now. I've been noticing the category dwindling on
*tilts head* Filtering is definitely cheapest. I'd ask you more but this is an open post. Do email me if you need to rant - I've been surprised at how much good it's done me in the past to drop someone a "GAH!" email that doesn't require a reply. It is frustrating when your flist - which should be a happy place - is a source of so much annoyance.

Date: 2009-02-10 03:45 pm (UTC)I randomly put stuff up at my ff.net account. Reviews there are, interesting shall we say. I'd chalk up the "random" comment as the fact the story is an episode tag, snippets here and there to smooth things over between the two episodes, not a full on story in itself.
Ah, writer's rubbish. I know it so well.

Date: 2009-02-10 03:51 pm (UTC)Every so often I think about posting to ff.net as well as here. Then I remember why I don't ;)
*sigh* I think it would actually be better if I *couldn't* write. As it is, I keep getting to the end of things, thinking 'nah' and deleting the whole lot *headdesk*

Date: 2009-02-10 08:42 pm (UTC)Miles? Miles? I have to have a handrail to get any sort of distance on ice, so I find this a very impressive feat.
Do Not get me started on my Gen rant here and now.
I won't, but I definitely understand exactly what you mean. You can feel free to drop me a "GAH!" e-mail as well ;)
feeling like I'm somehow not being a 'proper' fanfic writer for not delving into slash.
There are many ways to be a 'proper' writer, fanfic or no. Not writing a particular genre (that happens to be popular at the time) is definitely not one of them ;)
It is frustrating when your flist - which should be a happy place - is a source of so much annoyance.
It really, really is. I just made a work filter to take that particular post off my view, and it lowered my blood pressure almost immediately. (Although I apparently can't break myself from checking the rising comments on that post completely -- but it's an extra step to do that now... hrm, maybe I should look into those psych meds.)

Hope things are calmer this morning! Most of the ice had melted today, so apart from some hairy moments trying to get up the steps to the road, I had minimal slippage on the way to work :)

Date: 2009-02-11 10:37 am (UTC)It's flooded pretty badly here after the snow, and half of Oxfordshire seems to be under sheet ice. My walk in was much better though - I'm out of walking boots and into regular trainers :)
