It appears I'm writing a Criminal Minds/Numb3rs EPIC crossover. What is it with crossovers that makes them be so long, anyway? I've got some vague ideas bumping around in my head, but the story keeps trying to be in Charlie's POV, which would be fine if I actually knew the character. I'm not really more than a casual viewer of Numb3rs, and I've watched episodes from random seasons in a random order. Added to the fact that Five are always reapeating the same episode when I tune in (how do they know?), this could prove tricky.
So can anyone recommend "must see this" episodes for Charlie characterisation? I can hear his voice, I just don't know what to have him say, if that makes any kind of sense.
Anyway, enough of my blithering.
*glares* Why haven't more of you been over to the gen battle and written comment-fic? Or the fluff battle? Come on, folks. 4300 characters really isn't that many!
Today, I am awesome because I stayed awake through a whole course about serials AND I finally got a battery fitted to my watch, which has been dead for about 2 years. I've also managed to cross off a heathy chunk of stuff from my list, although I'm procrastinating terribly about the rest.
There's always tomorrow - I don't want to use up all my awesome all at once ;)
What about you guys? I've been very low-key-awesome today. Anyone done anything more exciting?

Today I am awesome because I finally posted the WIP that grew from a comment fic to almost 17k words. Does that count as Epic? It's one of them there long crossover beasties anyway, even if it does only cover a period of hours.

I have not panicked at an earthquake, posted my first new bit of writing in over six months (it's only a drabble, but I wrote it and posted it and it means I can write!), and written a tiny bit more on the gen SGA team h/c fic that seems determined to happen. Slow going, but - it's going! There's a plot! There is team. I am so happy. \o/

Date: 2009-02-18 05:19 pm (UTC)Due to life stuff, I've been having trouble meeting my big bang daily quota, so it's been hard to get my head around writing anything else, even drabbles. It's like I don't want to get distracted. (Because that's when dragons happen!) But I did have an art (scribbly picture? Sigh, I still don't know what to call the thing I do) idea for the fluff battle. If I don't chicken out, and I manage to work it into my schedule, that will be awesome.
Your awesome posts usually come before I've had a chance to be awesome that day, other than getting out of bed and teaching morning classes. Can I refer to the previous day's awesome? I feel kind of silly always talking about ways I hope I'm going to be awesome in the future.
After a warm stormy night (bad for sleeping), it's a really, really beautiful breezy springlike day here. I wish I could send some over!

Date: 2009-02-18 07:00 pm (UTC)Crossovers are long because you have to build two worlds into your story, either of which your readers may not know. So it takes twice as long for the story to get going.

Date: 2009-02-18 07:33 pm (UTC)For Charlie Eppes eps, if you haven't caught the first few episodes of the show, I suggest those more than almost any other as a way to really get inside Charlie's brain. He has definitely grown as a character since then, but those seem to have all of the really fundamental points if you're wanting to crawl into his (very busy) headspace, IMO. Let me look over an episode guide and I'll give you a more exact list. Definitely the pilot, though, and the second or third.

*shifts gulitily* I've been trying to install Windows XP on my mini-laptop? Okay, maybe that was just last night. Actually, I've been consumed by the FIC THAT ATE MY BRAIN+SOUL+OTHER VITAL PARTS, and while I do probably need a break from it, I'm afraid if I do I won't come back and finish it.
Let's see... my awesome for today... I have (digitally) hand made e-cards for one person on my f-list, discovered a fun audio trick at work, and made plans to go to Altex as soon as I get home today to pick up provisions to conquer my OS installation issues. (Hold me. I'm going to break my baby.)

I don't know much about Numb3rs - only seen one or two eps so I can't help with that. Sorry.

I may end up getting some horse-portrait work out of it, which would be wonderful.
I'm also awesome because I agreed to go back to another 7:00 a.m. meeting of the same group of people from which I got this referral. That's tomorrow morning. Guys, I am SO nocturnal. I Do Not Do Mornings, but I'm doing it because I need to survive, and I'm proud of myself for that.
And I'm getting my big commission canvas underway today, so that's another awesome thing.
What do you mean by "a whole course about serials"? Serial ... what? I'm presuming it's rather dull if your awesome achievement was to remain conscious throughout. :-)
Also, Jades, you are awesome for continuing these posts. They're really helpful, more than you might think.

Date: 2009-02-18 09:35 pm (UTC)Anyway - go you! I saw someone this weekend who works on Numb3rs and thought of your crossover. Did you know the show was originally going to be set at MIT?

Date: 2009-02-19 03:35 am (UTC)I've watched a bunch of Numb3rs, but I cannot for the life of me think of good Charlie-centric episodes *frowns at self*
I'd be happy to beta it, since I can *recognise* good Charlie voice. And I'll see if I can think of a good set of episodes for you to watch.
Ummm, do you have an idea of *when* you want it to be set? Because he-- especially his concerns and social skills-- evolves as the show goes on. Or would you want it to be sort of generic in regards to time?
deleted and reposted due to
grammar failTurns out the grammar wasn't fail, but by the time I'd realised that I'd already deleted it. So extra fail! Edited for coherency (hopefully) and now I'm going to stop flailing at the internet, even if it is amusing.(no subject)
