I love Little Britain, so maybe I have the right sense of humor for the Vesuvius Club (which I haven't read yet), but then again, sometimes it makes a difference when it's a *book* - expectations are different. The vague disconnect you're describing there is what I get when I read the Hitchhiker's Guide books: it's fun, and I'm delighted by the ideas and the twisty language, but I feel like I'm eating empty calories. And I have compared it to Pratchett, which feels more nourishing.
