Brief update

Thanks to everyone for last night. I will get around to replying to comments and "WORDS!" requests probably this afternoon, but right now, my brain is stuck at MOAR COFFEE, since we didn't get to bed until 12.15am.

The thesis is still broken, sadly. Endnote has had the hissy fit to end all hissy fits, and has randomly selected references, duplicated them and generally screwed with everything so badly that it's almost impossible to tell what's right and what's wrong any more. For a few wonderful minutes last night, we thought that copying it across into a new document had done the trick, but sadly not. Magic!IT guy at the lab may be able to help, otherwise we're at the 'add all the references by hand' stage, which is lengthy, but at least I know my brain works. Endnote, I don't trust further than I can throw it.

IS FIXED!!!! They had to fix references by hands but it now seems to be back together again! Woo hoo!!! And thanks to all for good wishes and prayers - much appreciated :D

Anyway, the plan for today is currently 'survive' and 'don't fall asleep on the keyboard'. There's probably more, but you'll have to wait until I wake up for that.

Oh bugger. I'm sorry it didn't work. It won't if the field code itself is broken.

It is possible to repair that some of the way though but it takes time. Place the cursor in one of the references in word. Press shift+F9. The underlying code bit will be revealed (press shift+F9 to reverse it). Right-click on it and click 'Edit citations'. That gives you a list of all the inserted citations. You won't be able to insert new ones but you can check what refers to what.

Alternatively, delete all of them (in 'edit citation' - otherwise they won't be deleted properly) and insert them again. That's probably the faster option.

It turned out to be an issue with just one chapter - he and a colleague went through, fixed 40 inserts and voila! It's fixed!!!!

Thank you! He and a colleague had to correct 40 references by hand, but it seems to be working now. Much rejoicing over here!

I'm glad the thesis is fixed. I did all my references by hand, but mine was some years ago. I did make copies of it and stash them in various locations as I was so paranoid about it being eaten by the computer.

Oh, and this isn't the right place, but WORDS?
