I have just, very quietly, opened bringthehappy on both LJ and Dreamwidth. I'll make a big splash about it later, when I don't have exactly eleventy-million work things to do, but I promised to open it this morning, and that's one promise I can keep.

It would mean a whole lot to me if you guys could spread the word - this comm has grown from my flist mostly by word of mouth, and that's been an awesome, incredible thing to be a part of. You guys rock.

Ok, as a fanfic noob - what do all the abbreviations mean? Is there a quick cheat sheet for things like Gen, and the ratings system?

Depends on the abbreviation! Ratings (going upwards) are usually "G, PG, PG-13, M, R, NC-17" (US-system, but I prefer it to the UK one anyway)

The genres are probably the most hotly debated set of definitions, but as a rough rule of thumb:
Slash = homosexual romance/sexual content
Het = heterosexual romance/sexual content
Gen = no sexual content

Generally speaking, if the names have a "/" between them, you can expect romantic/sexual content. (that's where the 'slash' comes from)

The Halloween party is always in my diary - the SGA Big Bang will just be finishing then, so it's perfect timing, and I'll be keeping up my intention of writing less fanfic this year. I'll have to start planning now, though, I think. At this point, I honestly can't think of anything I can write that I haven't...
