Efishunsy. I haz it.
Mar. 17th, 2010 09:38 amHappy St Patrick's Day to all who are celebrating!
Well, after yesterday's wash-out in the afternoon, I'm determined to be productive today. I got an early start when J elbowed me in the head at 4.30 this morning, so I'm both raring to go and kind of knackered. So much so that having ordered and paid for my coffee this morning, I walked out of Pret without it *facepalm* Don't worry, I went back for it ;)
There are hundreds (literally, actually, albeit in groups of 15) of 6th form students being given tours of the library this morning and this afternoon, which is always a fascinating experience. They don't look nearly as young as I was expecting, and this year, fruffy skirts are in fashion, mostly worn with short jackets and lots of necklaces. Last year, it was dresses with footless tights. They're generally very well-behaved, and it's the undergraduate guides we have to keep an eye on.
Right. Time to get productive. *rolls up sleeves*

Hopefully that's a)useful and b)achievable. It's not particularly sunny here today, but I'm feeling fairly chirpy right now. Everyone else's Wednesdays going/been/will be okay?
ETA: Why are the last few lines showing up in link-style when they're not a link? *prods LJ* I know people have been complaining about screwed-up code updates, but this is ridiculous. There's no html there, LJ. What are you doing!?

Date: 2010-03-17 09:56 am (UTC)The fruffy skirts etc make me feel like I'm having some kind of weird flashback to the early eighties. I don't mind too much - I liked early!Madonna with the slightly punky clothes - but I draw the line at shoulder pads which magazines keep trying to convince me are cool. Madonna = good, Dynasty = bad, and no-one's going to persuade me otherwise.
I'm intrigued by the Moo cards...

Date: 2010-03-17 10:01 am (UTC)Layers are big at the moment, as are tassely scarves. Also, jeans are still REALLY skinny o.O My interest in fashion is purely abstract, so it's fun to see what the young folk are doing ;)
Also, I see your snowflake icon and raised you a mispelling ;)

Date: 2010-03-17 10:11 am (UTC)Layers are big, which I like. My interest in fashion extends to 'oh look, people are wearing what I like therefore it got more expensive', or 'OMG MY EYES! MY EYES!', depending on the season :D The current thing for 80s clothes is both nostalgic and upsetting as on the one hand, it makes me feel like I'm five and reading my big sister's magazines, but on the other, puff-ball skirts. I mean, srsly, puff-ball skirts. I don't think they're calling them that anymore (like drainpipe jeans have become skinny jeans), but still. They traumatised me the first time around, and were universally acknowledged to flatter NO-ONE. Did they really need resurrecting?

Date: 2010-03-17 10:32 am (UTC)I really love the idea of Moo cards, and there are some awesome designs out there. It should be fine as long as I get the right image on the right card ;)

Date: 2010-03-17 12:22 pm (UTC)Maybe this wave of '80s styles will bring back cute shoes that don't have high heels. Affordable shoe fashions have been dire-looking for a very long time.
At the moment I'm trying to decide whether or not to call in late to work. My spring allergies are kicking up something awful and I'm not sure St. P's really wants to be subjected to the runny nose-swollen eyes zombie person that is me this morning.

Date: 2010-03-17 03:50 pm (UTC)I'm trying to gather the courage to call up the medical-financial-assistance folks and see if they can help me.
I think the depressed/panicky phase of this experience is finally starting to hit. Maybe because I'm taking far fewer pain pills now.
And I still have art to make. Which is great; it's just that I don't know how i'm going to focus.

Date: 2010-03-17 04:07 pm (UTC)Make sure they give you the good stuff, okay? If you take the right pain pills, that'll stop that, and as long as you follow the advice, it'll heal right up.
Will keep on with the praying ♥

Date: 2010-03-17 04:10 pm (UTC)LJ's doing some weird stuff to everything right now, I think. Plus the weird looking new 'track' pins are just...weird. [yes, yes, I do need to get me a thesaurus ;)]
Oh, wait, there's the comment. Um, yeah, I'm guessing that's not for me! *deletes from inbox*

Date: 2010-03-17 04:15 pm (UTC)I've had more allergy meds and am feeling somewhat better. I was about 20 minutes late to work because it felt like my brain was trying to escape through my nose, but I soldiered on and got here.

Date: 2010-03-17 04:17 pm (UTC)There are tears this morning, first time I've cried since it happened; probably overdue and as much a physical release of stress as anything. I know I'm going walking today. It'll help.
I've already set my timer and made a lot of headway cleaning off my desk, filing things, and finding the card I was terrified I'd lost -- for the nice woman at the financial assistance place. I'm going to be okay, just ... maybe not in the next five minutes.
eta called for financial assistance; i apprently don't qualify because i'm not poor enough. I'd have to make less than $677/mo. So i'm punished for trying as hard as i do.
they referred me to minnesota care, which is a whole other thing. don't know if they can help, but we'll see.
