It gets better. We have staircases on the north and south sides of the library, with the main desk and the lift at the other compass points. So when you're giving directions, you feel like an air stewardess, complete with waving arms.

Actually, it's quite fun, watching them walk round the library. They go past the main desk in one direction, then back in the opposite direction. Then they come round again in the same direction, clearly having gone round in a circle. And it's true. The men will not stop for directions....
