1. If there's one thing to be said for a migraine, I certainly sleep well on the days surrounding it. This isn't really how I meant to get 2 good nights of sleep, but eh. I'll take it.
2. I totally missed that yesterday was More Joy Day, but *whispers* I haven't actually been feeling that fannish lately. Which is weird for someone who started the year by plunging herself into the Fandom Snowflake Challenge. I think it's that most of the shows I was into last year are on hiatus, and while I would pick up other things, I have Unfinished Business with some fics, and am worried that if I dip into other shows, I won't get my mojo back for these.
Which is sort of daft, because I don't have any mojo for creating at the moment anyway, so maybe I just need a change of scenery and to come back to them fresh.
3. Oh dear, that wasn't very joyful, was it? Let's try that again.
*ahem*
Yesterday was More Joy Day! I've been getting an awful lot of joy from A Stitch In Time which is a delightful programme about the history of clothing in Britain. The presenter is fab, with an obvious depth of knowledge, and an obvious delight in what she does, which is the perfect mix for me. Plus I love historical costuming, so it's a big win.
4. After a free day yesterday, I've got another one today, in which I can just put my head down and work. Checking the calendar for next week, it's much the same, and that is So EXCITING. I've got a bunch of little tasks to do this morning, but this afternoon is a chance to look around at all the big projects I've got on, break them down into pieces, and figure out how I move them forwards. I'm thinking I'll try and assign blocks of time to them next week, and maybe actually schedule them on my calendar. It's not how I usually work, which is close to the Mark Forster* principle of asking yourself "Am I ready to do this now?" which stops you fighting yourself. It doesn't always work, of course, as so many tasks are time sensitive, but for my big jobs or a long list of equally important small ones, that's what I've tended to use. It definitely helps me, as I'm not fighting my brain all the time, trying to force myself to do things. But it can also mean that least-appealing jobs just don't get done. So today is "clear the decks" day, with next week being "Project Week". I'll let you know how I get on!
[there's a longer piece in here somewhere about the weirdness of being in this sort of job, and how I'm only just getting the hang of how it all fits together, but I think that might only be interesting to me...]
5. WEEKEND! As usual, I won't be around much over the weekend. J is helping a friend with some DIY, and I'm going to potter around the flat, sorting. Do you know the concept of kipple? It's from Do androids dream of electric sheep?, and I've always found it a useful way of describing how things just sort of creep up on you around the house, apparently out of nowhere. Some parts of the flat feel rather overtaken with kipple at the moment, and I need to push it back down again.
Incidentally, if you're not familiar with UFYH, I heartily recommend it to you. I've found the mixture of realism and compassion just what I needed, and it's a large part of how we dragged ourselves through last year, just about staying on top of things. It really is amazing how much you can tidy in 20 minutes!
Have a good weekend, folks. Anyone doing anything exciting?
