I can’t believe Friday afternoon has actually arrived. I’ve been stuck on a perpetual ‘Wednesday’ all week – that mid-week feeling where you feel like you’ve been working forever but there’s still too many days to go. And what a week…

The freshers have discovered the library, which means they want to borrow books, which means they have to be re-taught all the stuff they should have learned at their inductions, like how to use the internet, read book labels and not eat the pencils. This week’s lectures have been brought to us by the number 6 (the number of books they’re allowed to borrow) and the letter ‘P’. All the Greek texts I’ve shelved this week have begun with ‘p’ – Pausanius, Pindar, Polybius, Plato – I never realised there were so many. They borrowed and returned well over 3,000 books last week, most of them on Saturday, five minutes before the desk closed. No, the bell does not mean ‘all rush to the desk at once.’ It means ‘don’t you lot have homes to go to?’

The highlight of the week was getting my new computer up and running, which means I can now access [livejournal.com profile] nakannalee’s journal without it crashing my computer. I can also type without sounding like a machine gun going off and watch the BBC clips online. Very shiny. But I can’t put a picture on my desktop and access the library management system at the same time. Hmmmm, so I have a choice between Dilbert and cataloguing…tough one that.

We actually have a free weekend – nothing booked, nada, nil, nothing – and can’t wait. Except there’s housework to do, washing to do, stories to write and cooking to be done…

Roll on Monday :D
