ANOTHER EDIT (good grief, woman, make your mind up already): I think I like [livejournal.com profile] blackmare_9's suggested description "Angst-free fiction" best, and would add the happy ending proviso

EDIT: By fluff, I don't necessarily mean stuff that's sickly sweet. More stuff that leaves you with a smile and a happy ending. Fluff with an edge is fine :D

I've never made a poll before, but seeing as how my 'spoken in jest' comment has been taken seriously, I decided this would be a good chance to try.

Everyone's been complaining about a certain amount of glumness in fandom lately, so I proposed a fluff-fest. The stories don't have to be nauseating, just happy endings and maybe happy beginnings and middles as well, but they're not compulsory. I'd open it up to Torchwood and Doctor Who, as well as crossovers.

So! Vote in my shiny poll!

My to-do list is ridiculously long, but I firmly believe that writing happy!fic is good for the soul, so I'll find the time somehow ;)

I can't write fluff, but I can write dark OTP fluff-like fic? I just need someone to tell me if it works ^^

I have a very *low* sugar tolerance when it comes to fanfic. Fluff has to be earned in-story before I can tolerate it, generally (there are *always* exceptions, of course)

Normally I'm in the "fluff is EVIL!" category, but then there's times when you need fluff for the sake of your sanity.

And there's happy-ending stuff that's not necessarily fluffy, like "Ghost in this Hub". So all of that's good.

Hmmm...maybe I should modify it to 'happy endings' fic...

Hmm. There is, indeed, a wide range of things that could be considered "fluff." If it's treacly and involves kittens and rainbows I'm afraid I've no tolerance at all (unless there's also a comical accident involving, say, a lawn mower).

Yet I've written a few short and rather humorous Doctor Who and House things which could easily qualify as "fluff."

Perhaps the better way to define the category would be in terms of what it isn't. You could call it Angst-Free Fiction or the Save the Drama for Your Mama festival, or ... I don't know, and I'm going to shut up now.

*giggle* Don't go away! I like that description (the angst-free fiction one. I'm not sure I can get away with the other...)

I'm with you on the treacle/lawn mower front. It's more that the TW fandom has been overwhelmed with angst lately, and I feel the need to do something about it :D

I felt obliged to tick the 'No! Fluff is evil' since I have a genuine fear of the genre, and you phrased it so beautifully! However I have noticed a trend of general glumness and horrible torment in fic lately so I definitely think the idea in general is probably a good one.

Uses Lamb icon to soothe fluff's hurt feelings.

I admit to having too much fun coming up with the options, but it's my first poll so I wanted to make it a good one :D

I think the "Non-angst" fic is really what I'm going for - like "Ghost in this Hub" and "Ovis Cymraeg" (for which I should probably steal your icon ;)) I think the kind of [livejournal.com profile] jantolution fics are what I had in mind, only without the pairing limitation.

I'll see how many votes I get before I decide...

I like the idea of angst-free. As long as I can also write crack for it . . .

I've got a long list, but I'm sure I could manage something short.

I'm voting for the "Save the Drama for yo' Mama" festival.

In fact, I want an icon of the Master with that text on it.

Funny you should ask...I really, really, really can't stand the stuff, especially in H/W and I think this season has proven me absolutely correct. There may be love, lust, passion, need etc, but there can never, ever be "happiness."

Polls are slightly awesome, and liable to eat you with their multiple choices! Also, I think they make people indecisive...

But yes, I agree a 'no angst allowed' sort of fest. Not even a suggestion of angst at the beginning, and no character is allowed to be alone for more than ten minutes, lest they start angsting.

Feel free to take lamby if you want...

I'll allow a little angst, I think, as long as it heightens the happy ending. :D

And thanks - I shall definitely be stealing! He's so cute! *snaffles*

Oh, crack is always welcome :) I was thinking of encouraging people to write short, happy stories (kind of like 'Aer Marina') to cheer each other up!

Will have a ponder and sort out dates and see what happens...

I...I think in H/W, the tension is always going to be there, just because he's House, although the thought that there could never be happiness makes me sad, so I don't like to think it ;)

In DW/TW, the character dynamic is rather different, and although there can be great angst, I 'buy' the non-angst more easily.

I'll keep my eyes open for the high drama for you though... :D

I think it might have been believable in the 1st and 2nd seasons, but it's pretty damn hard to look at even the lighter moments in the 2nd half of this season and really see hope. The last two House scenes of Human Error tell the tale. But I also think they will always be having moments of flippant wit and desperate sex and UST. Just no way to happily resolve. In fact, I just finished a H/Stacy H/W pre/post-infarction angst-fic based on late 3rd season canon.

B/T/W-I'm bi-fictional, so het-recs are fine as well, if you're willing to touch the stuff. Also...there will be another "Come As You're Not" Halloween party, to which you should already consider yourself invited. (Official invite will be posted 60 days prior.)
