Dear Undergradutes,

Please to be borrowing more books. You returned so many of them yesterday that we don't actually have room on our shelves for them and the security tag sensitizer started to give out smoke. It's lying room only* in some sections and it took four of us forty-five minutes to finish the shelving this morning, as well as the four people who shelved for two hours last night.

While the amount you are spending on photocopying and on fines is keeping us in date stamps and chocolate, we would greatly appreciate it if you could stagger the returns in future, so that our brains don't melt on the first day of term. There isn't enough money in the fund to buy new ones.

Thank you for your attention.

*Like standing room only, except for books. We're having to lie them across the top of the shelves because there just isn't room.

They're everywhere! And returning wet books *grrrr*

One of my poor colleagues shelved for about 3 hours on Saturday without really managing to make a dent in it. Roll on the essay crises to get them out of the library!

That bugs the hell out of me too. It's raining outside - do you a) put your books in a plastic bag to return them, or b) carry them in a pile instead of an umbrella? I mean, it oughtn't be rocket science...

I only stopped shelving at about 3.45 yesterday, and that was because my boss was worried I looked fainty...

Awww *pets*

If you could also ask them to make up their minds what course they're studying, that would be super. I've done about a dozen returns this morning for people who've switched courses and had already bought all their books.

They're clearly affecting you if you can no longer spell undergraduAtes ;)

*grin* I think some of them are starting to have second thoughts...

Oh, and :P

Why aren't you online when I want you to be hmm? How selfish. *tut* You should know when I'm going to have computer access, and be ready and waiting to talk to me ;P

It wasn't anything important, unsurprisingly. I just wanted to whine at someone about how come something I spent half an hour writing, and didn't even like that much gets loads of comments, and stuff I spend ages on and feel really proud of gets like four. *throws teddy out of pram*

*cough*

So, how are you? ;)

We're having to lie them across the top of the shelves because there just isn't room.

I'm having this problem at home. The other half and I are deadlocked--he says that if we buy more shelves, I'll just buy more books and fill *them* up too. I keep telling him, I'm going to buy the books anyway. Lack of shelf space isn't going to stop me. There already are There'll just be books all over the floor as well, when the doublestacking space runs out.

*grin* You can never have too many books. When we moved into our (rather small) flat, I had to leave most of mine at home with my mother or in boxes. You definitely shouldn't let lack of space stop you!

*whistle* Wow. Hopefully it'll calm down soon, though. At least for a few weeks, while everyone puts off their essays/projects because it's only the start of term.

It's getting better already, it's just the first couple of days that are hellish. Oxford terms are only 8 weeks long, so no-one can put things off for too long, but they also have to get the hang of things quickly or they'd never get anywhere!
