Chains

Your love alone - is not enough not enough not enough
When times get tough they get tough they get tough they get tough

Lennier had thought it would be enough. The unconditional regard, the security of affection. Just being close to her, knowing that she was near. He was wrong. Because it turns out there is something stronger than love, and it's eating him from the inside out. Even meditation provides no release, the images that assault his resting mind drive him from his quarters out into the hallways beyond.

He avoids the red and green zones, not wanting to meet anyone he recognises, or who recognises him. Instead, he makes his way down to the Zocolo, walking past boarded-up stalls, breathing deeply in the near-silence. The peace is soothing, in this place that is normally so loud and bustling. He sinks into the sensation as he passes closed shops and covered tables, the feeling of the quiet penetrating the haze of jealousy that is clouding his judgement. He must be free of it, if he is to meditate. Meditation is a state of body as much of mind, and he finds equilibrium easier to achieve now that he is moving, feeling the chains of emotion slip away, falling from him with each step he takes forwards.

Then he turns a corner and his eye is drawn to the display screen in a shop window. It shows an interview with Sheridan from a few months ago. His breath catches in his throat, and for a moment he cannot move. He fights the urge to smash the window, to rid himself of the image that haunts him. But there is no point. The sensation is all-consuming, and he was a fool to think that he could escape from it anywhere. It will follow him, or it will destroy him.

Turning, he makes his way slowly back to his quarters, feeling the coldness sweep over him again, the bitterness that is his constant companion. It is too much to hope that he will ever be free of this burden. He will just have to learn how to carry it.

I love Lennier so much, and although it was absolutely right for his character, he went through the mill so badly in S4 and 5.

Thanks :)

Oh, Lennier. This feels very right for what he must have been feeling. And it makes me hurt for him.

Lennier is definitely one of those characters that I just want to weep for - so unfair!

Thanks!

It was unfair! JMS is mean--but I love him anyway. :)

Me too! Poor guy.

Oh, poor Lennier. I always thought he got a bit of a raw deal.

(It's all his own fault, thought, because back in Season Two Billy Mumy went to JMS and said "I think Lennier is secretly in love with Delenn." And JMS said, "Okay, we'll play it like that.")

Ooh, I didn't know that. It worked completely, and was a great story line, but yes, he really did get the fuzzy end of the lollipop.
