April Writing Round-up

First things first: Happy birthday
nightdog_barks! Wishing you a good day, and another year of great fic and fun fandom :)
Second things second:
I am feeling rather random today, so please excuse me. But
fandom_me said that she associates me with tigers, while
miss_zedem says that I make her think of ducks. What do you think?
[Poll #1180225]
ETA: Huh. It looks like
fandom_me is just more observant than the rest of you, since I haven't had a duck/bird icon in over 6 months. At least. Whereas I have 2 tiger icons at the moment, which I use quite a bit. Still. Ducks will do :)
And third things third: It's been an odd month for fic, but there you go. A bit of Torchwood and a bit of SGA, with some Latin thrown in for good measure. It does seem to have been my month for binge-writing. I wrote over half of Bibula Harena in one sitting, and my Big Bang fic was written in 4 days. 22,000 words. 4 days. No wonder my brain hurts.
Anyhoo, on with the list.
SGA Fic
Bibula Harena, my entry for
sga_genficathon was technically written in March, but since it went public in April, I'm counting it. I'm hugely proud of this, because the action was incredibly technical to write, and it took much waving of hands and acting things out in my head to get it right.
Summary: This is all there is, the stick in his hand, the knife in his belt, the crowd roaring around him, and the man he has to kill.
Tresdecim Modi ut Rodneius Videre Posset and Rodney's Poetry Months (Latin Remix). In which I test my geekery and am not found wanting. A labour of love, coming from a strange impulse to translate
bironic's Thirteen ways of looking at Rodney into Latin. I then decided there should be a reason for doing that, other than just because I did. So the fic was born.
Summary: Someone's leaving Rodney notes. Now all he has to do is work out how to read them.
Torchwood fic
What not to buy, written for
fan_eunice, who wanted Gwen&Ianto, friendship fic. This took more work than expected, but I was pleased with the results. For me, it's a pretty fluffy story, but I'm told you can read it as a character piece as well. I think in my mind, if no one gets hit, cut or killed, it's fluffy. I should probably worry more about that.
Summary: All Gwen wanted was a nice, quiet shopping trip…
Waiting for Tomorrow, written for
miss_zedem. Wartime London, Richard from the AAU to OTY meets Hugh from STT. Confused? Great. This was surreal to write, taking 2 OCs and wrapping a story around them is something I haven't done for a long time. But I'm going to have to revisit the period, because it was such a pleasure to write.
Summary: In wartime London, Richard has a surprising encounter with a young Lance Corporal.
My Big Bang fic (currently untitled). Currently standing at around 22k, this monster is finally finished, or will be once I add the epilogue (which is about half written). I'm remarkably pleased with it, considering. It needs polishing like you wouldn't believe, but there's a good story lurking under there, if I can just get at it. No summary or quotes - you'll just have to wait for the reveal in June :)
ETA:
One of my new colleagues just told me I have nice legs. Apparently she likes English girls' legs because they're "nice and plump and round". This was accompanied by the appropriate hand gesture.
It was odd, but made me happy.
Also, I'm currently having to resist the urge to call my Big Bang fic 'Death by Sandwich', which has nothing whatsoever to do with most of the story. Days like this, I can't decide whether I hate or love my brain...

ETA: I just checked your icons and it's not there! But it used to be! I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP.

Date: 2008-04-30 01:22 pm (UTC)I did used to have an emu icon, and a duck one, but I haven't used either for months and months. Although it makes me smile that people still associate them with me. People either have very good or very bad memories ;D

Date: 2008-04-30 01:44 pm (UTC)Most intriguing...especially since I have several tiger/orange cat icons. And yet...

Date: 2008-04-30 03:42 pm (UTC)Thank you, Jades!
And I usually think of a duck, probably because of the photos you've posted of a drowned Oxford.

Date: 2008-04-30 03:57 pm (UTC)I seem to be doomed to be a duck now...I shall have to compose a suitable picspam :)

Date: 2008-04-30 05:08 pm (UTC)(I too voted duck for the flooded views of your garden, though, and because you talk about the ducks.)

Date: 2008-04-30 05:15 pm (UTC)I voted duck. Because I remember your duck icon, but I don't think I've ever seen you use your tiger icons before today.
