*sings* Happy Birthday To Me!

(yes, [livejournal.com profile] travels_in_time, I know it's your birthday too - I've got a whole other post for you here)

Well, it's not my actual birthday, the date of which is cunningly and subtly concealed in my username, but it is the birthday of my LiveJournal. One year and nearly 300 posts later, there's no getting rid of me, however much that might disappoint you. So I felt the need to do something to mark the occasion. Okay, so I may spam your friends pages a little with fic and posts, what with one thing and another, but as that's not new, I thought I'd do something else to mark it.

a few stats... )

I'm not given to gushing, as it makes my inner-Brit get all hot under the collar, so you might want to make a note of this post. It may well be another year til you see the next...

I can't go round my whole flist and say how awesome you are, as I only have one lifetime and plan to do other things with it as well. I'm just hoping that those people I can't mention by name will forgive me, and be reassured that you make me smile on a daily basis. It cheers up a dull and often lonely job to know you lot are out there.

And if you can't remember why you're seeing this... I know there are some of you who probably groan at seeing my name come up again and are wondering how I ended up on your f-list anyway. No hard feelings, not a problem - these things happen - and I'm not going to be offended by being defriended - hope you have fun out there :)

A year in unreal life. Cut for sappiness, gushing and length. Comes with a high sugar warning. )

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] travels_in_time!

There's fic waiting for you over at [livejournal.com profile] heretoutopia, and, because I'm finally getting the hang of it, a small picspam under the cut :)

Have a great day, hon!

It is entirely possible that this morning, I encountered the cutest thing in the whole world. A baby sparrow fluttered over a car and landed in the road in front of me. It was fine, although it looked a bit confused, but oh my soooooo cute. It was about the size of a ping-pong ball with lots of fluff and a tiny, tiny beak. I tried to keep the squeeing to a minimum to avoid scaring it, but I did flail, just a little :) Happy thoughts to get me through the day.

In other news...Oxford University is raiding Facebook to find evidence of students breaking university regulations. I guess it was only a matter of time... The thing is, yes, Facebook has lots of filters and things built in, but it's still essentially a public forum. I don't think the University should go raiding people's accounts for evidence, but then, would you want to come back to your car to find that it had been covered in eggs, flour and glitter, all with a nice layer of champagne to stick it down? Not to mention that it takes months, literally, for the glitter to come out of the cobbles.

I approve of trashing*. It's fun and traditional and highly entertaining to watch, but please, people, apply a bit of common sense. Most colleges have an 'informal' garden where they're happy for you to do what you want (Jesus college has got it about right, I always thing) and it's not like you didn't know about the fines in advance. And really, is it a good use of University staff's time (not to mention wages) to go trawling through Facebook for evidence? An Oxford degree is three/four years of brain-melting culminating in a week that decides the rest of your life - let them (us) let off steam a little!

Can't the Proctors get over themselves a little and the students stop and consider that maybe other people live in Oxford too? Please? *sigh*

*I should note at this point that, because I don't drink, my own trashing consisted of large quantities of confetti, silly string, Ben's cookies and Schloer after which they threw a large, fluffy dog at me. Oh yes. I know how to live :)
