Snowflake challenge: Day 8
Jan. 8th, 2013 07:27 pmI'd forgotten what it was like waiting for beta comments to come back. A little nerve-wracking and spending most of my time over-correcting my html formatting. So time for some distraction in the form of
snowflake_challenge.
Okay, this one chimed with me, more than a little:
Day 8: In your own space, talk about setting yourself a fannish goal. Big or small, it doesn't matter. Some examples: complete a bingo, sign up for a Big Bang, write that fic you've been thinking about for years, podfic that story that you love, make a fanmix for your fandom, post that bit of meta or reclist you keep putting off. Maybe resolve to be better at leaving feedback or answering comments. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Considering I've spent the last week here on a bit of a navel-gazing fannish exercise, this is an appropriate challenge for sure.
I love non-LJ/DW blogging, I really do. But it's very different to what I put here, and it's different company and conversational dynamics to the ones that I can have in these spaces, and I miss fans. That's not something I thought I would say, but I do. I miss having people who are as into stuff as I am, and who don't think it's odd to discuss it at length, whether in a comment thread or email. I've missed that side of me, and I'd quite like it back.
For the last few years, at the beginning of the year, I've chosen a word for the year. This year, I think it's going to be engage. That doesn't just apply to fannish stuff, but to life in general. I've been in survival mode for a while now. Time to get up and at 'em.
To that end, I'm joining comms, meeting people, commenting on stuff. I'm probably going to do
paperlegends and a podfic challenge of some kind, and I'm going to get some Merlin Gen rec lists up, because you can never find that sort of thing when you want it. I'm going to get my crafting going again after falling out with it badly for some reason, and I'm even going to try to get some work done at work (I know, shocking). I feel like I spent most of 2012 one day at a time. This year, I'd like to enjoy those days.
But honestly? The first thing I'm going to do is sort out my icon situation. Because you can't have too many shinies and I'm bored with most of these. Priorities? What priorities?
