Day 1

In your own space, talk about why you're participating in Snowflake and, if you’ve participated in the past, how the challenge has affected you. What drew you to it? What did you take away from it? What do you hope to accomplish this year?

I think I started one a few years ago, but only got to about Day 3. 2017 was the year I got back into Fandom, so I'm hoping that by spending the start of 2018 on fannish things, I'll keep that momentum going. I got a little burned out with challenges in the last quarter of the year, and need to recharge the batteries. It's also a good way to get back into the habit of posting here.

Day 2

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.

While I could go back further, I think I'm going to stick with 2017 for this one. About the middle of the year, after I'd started to dip my toe cautiously back into fandom, and had posted a few odds and ends for the first time ages, I got a ping from Blackglass ([profile] xdriorix) to say that there was a collaborative podfic happening for Pod_Together, and I NEEDED to sign up. I ended up contributing a small part, meeting new people and even helping with some beta-type services. It was just what I needed, when I needed it, to feel part of something and remember why I enjoy fandom in the first place.

I'm not the sort of person who gets included spontaneously in many things in real life - normally, I find out things happened afterwards, my health has severely limited what I can do, and I don't get invited to very much* - so having someone hear of a project and think of me was incredibly touching, and probably helped propel me into the rest of the fannish things I did this year.

*that's not WOE IS ME, btw. I've become a bit of a hermit this year! Knitters and fans have made the effort to include me, though, proving that they are, as ever, The Best.
