Five things make a post (from Tumblr)
Jan. 11th, 2018 01:13 pm1a. The Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology is taking submissions again. If you’re a podficcer, or podcurious, definitely consider giving it a go. Stories *have* to be short, so it keeps the pressure down. And sing out if you need any help.
1b. Similarly, if you are a podficcer and want something written specifically for you, let me know! I’m only taking definite prompts, as I don’t have the brains to come up with things myself. But the more specific the better, and we’ll work something out. To help, I made a list of my fandoms here, because I’m tired of just pointing people to my AO3 account - it feels like I’m saying “read my stuff!”, and there’s also things on that list that I would no longer want to write, as well as things I’d happily write for that aren’t on there. Now I just need to keep updating it.
1c. I’ve said this about a million times lately, but. If you’re a writer who is happy for your stories to be podficced, please put up a blanket statement of permission. And encourage other people to do it too. There’s lots of podfic fests through the year, when we all going trawling through AO3 looking for stories to record. I’ve bookmarked about 20 things so far for the Awesome Ladies Anthology, but the ones with blanket permission go straight to the top of the list. I think both podficcers and authors can be kind of shy sometimes, either thinking no one will give permission for *them* or that no one will want to record their work. And I’m not saying that adding blanket permission will bring all the podficcers to your yard. But it does massively increase the likelihood that they’ll turn up :)
1ci. I should also say that if it’s something you categorically don’t want, putting that on your profile also makes sure that you don’t get bugged by people asking for permission!
2. Making that list of fandoms, it occurred to me that I am really, really bad at finishing things. There’s a bunch of series where I’ve seen S1 and maybe S2, but no more. And I haven’t read the last 4-5 Terry Pratchetts, because when I do, there won’t be any more to read, and I’m not ready for that. At all.
3. I’ve had several nice comments on my podfics lately, telling me specifically that my voice sounds nice. My reading voice is one of the few things I’m kind of vain about, and I work hard on making things sound food, so that’s been a lovely boost <3
4. Oh good heavens, I have too much to read. Books! Fic! Podfic! Audiobooks! It’s all getting into a giant mess. I think I need a spreadsheet, because it’s kind of all over the place at the moment, and I don’t know what to do next. Whichever I pick, I feel like I’m cheating on something else.
5. I have uploaded a bunch of icons to my Dreamwidth, so that I have one for every occasion, more or less. It’s pretty obvious from it that I love text icons and generic icons more than fannish ones - it makes me kind of sad that I can’t change my Tumblr icon for each post, I have to say. Also, it was a good idea to save the name of the maker in the file name, so that ten years later, I can still give them credit!
