How Do They Rise Up?

I didn't get around to ordering a lilac pin for today, but I'm going to go give something to Match it for Pratchett. Full details of what I'm talking about are there, but the short version is: Terry Pratchett was recently diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease; he donated $1m (£500,000) to research into the causes of the illness; match it for Pratchett is a fund-raising campaign to match that sum of money through fan donations.

And the lilac? Truth, justice, freedom, reasonably priced love and a hard boiled egg? The glorious 25th? Well, they're from Nightwatch, which is for my money, the best of Pratchett's books. Since it would take me too long to explain that one, I recommend just reading it, even if you've never touched the Discworld before. Because in the hands of a good author, there is nothing like fantasy for getting the heart of what it means to be human.

Very, very true, especially of Nightwatch. Must re-read it soon...

I meant to order a lilac pin too. May has slipped by so fast.

Happy 25th!

It's Towel Day too. Couldn't wear a lilac or a towel to work though as a) it might upset the patients (the rest of the staff already know I'm mad) and b) it wouldn't comply with the uniform policy. Maybe a small lilac towel for next year... in fact a nice lilac towel with "Truth, justice, freedom, reasonably priced love and a hard boiled egg" would be wonderful.

I'll be doing my bit at the con in August...

Nightwatch is possibly my favourite also - I love the Guards books - and Vimes - *so* much.
