Can I go home yet?
May. 26th, 2008 09:22 amDear Oxford City Council,
It was already a bad morning. I'm working on a Bank Holiday and it's tipping it down with rain. Just to add to this, I was having a seriously nasty allergic reaction to my knee-length socks, so that I pretty much wanted to rip all the skin off my shins if it would just make the itching stop. The itching was making me distracted and nauseous.
I therefore could have done without the slippery-as-ice paving slabs on the corner by the library. I don't care if they've got bumps on them. They felt like they'd been greased, and I only managed not to fall over by grabbing the signpost next to me and badly jarring my shoulder.
You only replaced them recently. I'm lucky that I'm (just about) fit enough to look after myself. If anyone hurts themselves there (which I hope they don't, but still) I hope they sue you for every penny.
No love,
Me.
In other news, now that the itching has subsided and I only have the nausea, I'm feeling better. Cross, but better. I'll take 'slightly sick' over 'agonising pain' any day. And it's not long to the holiday - woo hoo! Ooh, which reminds me, people who are visiting this fair if soggy isle next week, I'd love to see you but will need to book holiday in advance. No problem if we can't make dates match, but I don't want it to be for lack of trying.
If anyone needs me, I'm writing or on gmail or sitting here, crying over a pile of big red books...

I hate it when they use those slippery paving slabs too. They're utterly hopeless.
I'm on gmail too - I can send you my addy if you want to chat.

Date: 2008-05-26 08:55 am (UTC)I wasn't that spaced out this morning, and I'm a lot steadier on my feet that a lot of Oxford residents - there's going to be a nasty accident there if they're not careful.
*hugs back*

Date: 2008-05-26 11:16 am (UTC)If it makes you feel any better, I've been without power for 12 hours now - I woke up to no hot water, no heating, not being able to even boil a kettle! The joys of living on top of a hill in the Cotswolds...*sigh*... we've had gail force winds all night so I suspect a power line has gone down. We seem to be remarkably vulnerable to it here. I'm beginning to think I might as well give in a go into the office to get some work done! My computer battery only has another 2 hours to go before it dies... On the bright side I have a pile of 4 manuscripts to read, so I have no excluse for not getting stuck into them!

(My eldest son rang me, very apologetically, at half past seven this morning to plead for a lift the rest of the way to work as he was on his bike, half drowned and less than half way there.)

Thanks! :)
