Ginger fest!

ETA: And from BBC Wales

Train Travelling Dog is 'A Big Hit'

Bless!

Also, I've just been turned down for a new mobile phone contract because of some credit-related reason (they won't say what).

What?

No, seriously. What? The only debt I have is my student loan. No credit cards, no mortgage, nothing. I think this means that I have no credit history. Apparently, for a mobile phone company, this is worse than having a bad one.

Either I'm getting madder or the world is...

It's probably absence of credit history, though if you've had a prepay mobile before you ought to have one; equally, if your name is on any of your bills, that helps. I know mine was practically absent, since I got charged double the usual deposit by BT.

I've had a mobile before, exactly like this, and my name is on some of the bills. It's a really, really weird one...

The Carphone Warehouse trusted me - why can't Phones4u???

You could tell p4u that you've been fine with CW, and that you could always go back to them...

*grin* Ooh, hadn't thought of that...

We're going to see if the other half has any luck first, but yes, that's a really good plan. *rubs hands together* most cunning, thanks.

Yes, it's like that over here too. You must have a credit history, even if it's bad, to get any sort of contract or lease. I get into trouble sometimes because I pay everything off in time and don't carry many cards in my name. It's ridiculous.

Whut?

Also, Phones4U is useless. I was with them once, and they made a complete mess of my contract. These days, I go direct to source. I find I get a better deal direct from the providers.

I know.

We're going to give them a go, because they are SO much cheaper than anywhere else. And since my last couple of contracts have been through retailers, I can't get good deals directly from the networks. Which is a pain :S

But I really like the phone, so am keeping my fingers crossed for this one!

In that case, good luck! And remember to make threatening noises about getting better deals elsewhere :)

If he does, make sure you co-sign with him. That way it gets on your history too so maybe you won't have the same problem next time.

Train Dog - squeee. Perfect timing, I needed that happy! Not only is the dog adorable and three-legged, her owner is adorable and lives on a farm, and the TRAIN HAS A FACE.

Gingerfest - ooh! Bravo to them! It's still odd to me to run into the idea that red hair is a difficulty to be overcome (or defiantly embraced) but Gingerfest sounds great anyway. *g*

Credit is so weird. I was advised to get a couple of credit cards and carry a balance on them, even for a little while, so I could build up a credit history. I had had one card for years and had always paid it on time, because that's what you're supposed to do! Only not if you want a phone company to trust you, apparently. ::eyeroll::

Yay! I thought you'd like the dog :D

I think the ginger thing is more of a UK thing, but yes, it sounds awesome.

We're looking into getting a credit card for that very reason (as well as the insurance thing for stuff bought online) It's just nuts!

*nods* The whole 'don't get into debt' thing kind of breaks down at that point, doesn't it? So daft.
