jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Text - hello my name is fangirl)

I've stayed well out of all the Organization for Transformative Works discussion/controversy/arguments/noun of your choice mostly because I wasn't really bothered. Like many of the people on my flist, I play happily in my own little corner of the fandom sandbox, and don't really worry too much about what others are doing. Selfish? Yes, but it keeps me well away from most of the drama that rocks fandom from time to time and, therefore, keeps me happy.

Then they opened Fanlore.

The rest of you should take this as an awful warning. The damn thing is totally addictive. Totally. The Torchwood pages are only half there, the Doctor Who ones are largely a work in progress and there are no pages at all for Criminal Minds. I have this horrible feeling that if I'm not careful, I'm going to lose what little remains of my life to this thing.

There are pages for fandoms, fanworks, fan communities and fans. Some of the biographies are serious, some are entertaining. I've been very restrained so far about putting pages in for fans, but there are many of my flist who I think should be up there. (*rubs hands together* Mwahahahaha*coughcough*) Some sections are well underway (yes, SGA, I'm looking at you), some are barely populated. So if you have five minutes and don't mind risking the last of your sanity, I recommend it!

I noticed those blanks too, and I was very tempted to start working on them.

But I have no time.

I'd love to see good articles there. Not to mention other fandoms, especially some of the more obscure ones I love.

*nods* I'm also a bit nervous, because there's no one as touchy as fans, and I don't want to get it wrong. But the fan pages, for people on my flist...I could do that... There should also be a page for Torchwood_meta and TARDIS_bigbang and all sorts of other things that I could do.

Like you, I don't really have the time, but oh. I so wish I did!

It would be wonderful to see it done, and see it done right.

But there is already a lot of information on Torchwood and Doctor Who - the canon, not the fandom - on wikipedia and at the TARDIS wiki (http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Doctor_Who_Wiki) so I suspect there will be a lot of overlap. (Is crossreferencing between wikis acceptable?)

There will definitely be some overlap, and there should be a link on the Fanlore page to the TARDIS wiki, but Fanlore's focus should be on fan-activity, rather than exact details about the source material. A good example is the 2006 trends (http://fanlore.org/wiki/Stargate_Atlantis/Trends/2006/Sandbox) sandbox for SGA, where they record roughly what happened on the show, but more than that, they record how fandom reacted. It's an interesting project :)

It would be - will be, I hope - really interesting to see. The fannish history is of interest to us, so I hope it gets preserved. And DW fandom has been organized and around for a very long time.

I really should learn to listen to your advice. Very addictive.I just got lost in there for an hour! Slowly pulling myself out now so I can get some work done today... there's something strangely alluring about poking through fandom history.

OMG I started a little bit of stuff (I began the Greg House and Lisa Cuddy pages) but I had to back away quickly because Damn It I Do Not Have Time. Seriously.

*smacks self*

Although I'm looking forward to adding some stuff (especially fan pages, like for my internet friends) around Christmastime, when I've got the time. Of course, I'm ALSO anticipating reading some Big Bang fics during that time, so.

I know! It's like an addiction though! Because you click to one page, and there are links but some of the links don't go anywhere or the pages aren't finished so you go to look at others to see how it's done and then it's and hour later and you're still there!

*breathes*

(especially fan pages, like for my internet friends)
*grin* That's exactly what I thought! It's very SGA/DS-heavy at the moment, but I was looking for all my House and Torchwood friends and couldn't find them. That should definitely be rectified...
