jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Eek! - explosion/Oops)
[personal profile] jadesfire
For those of you not in the UK, I should probably preface this by saying that we're having unseasonably cold weather for October. It's supposed to be autumn, not winter, but I got snowed on last night on my way to my Slimming World group, which was seriously weird.

Anyway, with the mixture of cold weather and the rain we had yesterday, the pavements were really icy this morning, and since if you look up the word 'klutz' in the dictionary you'll find a picture of me, I thought to myself "I must be careful this morning". And I was. Until I came to a patch of sheet ice that spanned the whole pavement. Of course, I didn't realise it spanned the whole pavement until I put my foot on what I thought was tarmac and turned out to be ice.

Fortunately, if there's one thing I'm really good at, it's falling over.

I managed to go sideways rather than backwards, so no real damage except to my pride (and a slight ache in my shoulder that I'm sure will go off). Also, my coffee-preservation instincts remain as keen as ever, and I somehow kept my cup upright as I fell. Then I had to tackle the problem of sitting in the middle of a huge patch of ice with no way to get up. I had to scoot to the edge of it before I could get my feet on tarmac and struggle upright again. Dignified? No. Effective? Yes.

So anyone who was driving/cycling/walking down the Banbury Road this morning and saw a flailing figure in a blue coat? *waves* That was me.

Be Careful Out There, folks.

There weren't many people around - no one walked past without stopping, and I was sitting up and flailing, so I probably looked fine. I've taken more impressive falls than that and lived to tell the tale ;)

I've got some aches, but am otherwise okay. Although it's going to take me a while to defrost *brrrr* So cold!

Thanks, though.

Lots of people fall, but not everybody can do it without serious injury and especially without spilling! Heck, I spilled almost a gallon of liquid over three separate incidents yesterday and wasn't falling at all. Good for you! :)

I do hope the soreness isn't serious, though, and you can get home to a hot bath soon. ::pets gently::

Tell me about it! I drove home from Oxford at about 8pm last night and hit a snowstorm outside Woodstock, and met with about 2 inches of snow just outside Chipping Norton - I couldn't believe it! All gone this morning but very cold nevertheless. I come into town on the Woodstock road in the morning so I missed seeing you. Hope you've recovered from the fall!

On another note - Slimming World! I go to my local group on Mondays. How are you getting on? I've found it does work, but after losing 20 pounds I've got stuck and have stayed the same for the last 5 weeks which is v. frustrating... I might have to actually start exercising... (oh, the horror!)

Wow! The snow didn't settle here. Just the ice... Am fine now, thanks.

Cool! I've been doing SW for coming up on 4 years now, having got to Target just before my wedding - I lost just over 3 stone altogether, but put on some over the last year, which I've struggled to get off again. Don't give up! If you're having problems, my three things are always:
- Try new food. Variety is so important, and can get you going again.
- Try an SAS log. They're awesome for finding problems you didn't know you had!
- Try Success Express. It's great for kickstarting weight loss again.

Exercising will help to the tune of 1-2 lb a month, but only if you're eating right as well. I definitely recommend talking to your Consultant (or, you know, me!) if you're having trouble. I go every week still, and wouldn't have kept as much off as I did without it.

Good luck!
