Good morning, lovelies. Everyone alright out there? I'm a very happy clam with my little lightbox under my monitor, and I don't have to come into work tomorrow! Well, I'm on a course in London, which is sort-of work, but I like being in London so that's okay :) I'll miss you all though, especially since I'm out all weekend. Withdrawal's tough.

Enough about me, though. Go on, get out of here - there's lots of good stuff out there:

# Make sure you go through all the Wish Lists that are starting to turn up out there (*cough*mine'shere*cough*). We can all do small things that make people very happy, and I know how excited I get - if everyone else only gets *half* that excited, you must be bouncing off the walls.

# Speaking of which, [livejournal.com profile] consci_fan_mo is now open for prompts. From the user info:
"Three weeks of short stories of the sci-fi and fantasy kind, whether they be fanfiction or original works. The sort of stories you can curl up on the sofa with, while the weather does its worst outside, and can finish reading before your tea goes cold and your biscuit goes soggy in the saucer."

This is a comm designed especially for people who are filled with dread by NaNo. Short fiction only, original sci-fi/fantasy and fanfic all welcome. Go leave a prompt, or see if something sparks your imagination. Should be a good month!

# This book is intriguing me muchly, and I think it might suit some of you as well. Technically YA, it's set in an apocalyptic, telepathic world. Oh and it just won a prize. Sounds intriguing.

# Apparently there's going to be an X-men movie reboot. Hmmmm...

# [livejournal.com profile] galpalficathon is going strong, with lots of awesome female-centric stories. Mostly friendship, some slash, and it's good to see the girls getting some fic-time. There's lots of fandoms represented, so go take a look!

# Terry Pratchett folks! That's *definitely* not our cow!

# If you haven't voted in the Last Fic Writer Standing round, please do so! It's an interesting selection of stories this time round, with everyone picking different ways to get round the 'no dialogue' rule. See if you can guess which is mine (I think I'm pretty spottable, but then I would think that...)

# And finally. Quantum Tic Tac Toe. Oh yes.

Doesn't it? There's some really good YA stuff out there now. I've just reserved it at the library :)

I think I guessed which lfws is yours, I just went back and looked. Only 19 entries (out of 26 authors) interesting, no? I wonder if any one will be booted for not writing and not having skips?

*grin* I couldn't spot you this time round, although I read through fairly quickly rather than in detail. I'm going to go back and guess and leave comments when I can :) Will be interesting to see if we're right - mine was *very* me (I think) so you probably are!

Yes, I noticed that too. I think we'll lose 1 or 2 people that way, as well as the 2 who get voted off. Which still only takes us down to 22, but at least we're getting there. If the challenges keep getting harder, I think that will put a lot of people off. Which I guess is the idea! At this rate, the last contestants are all going to be people I know :D

oh yes- comments! I read them all while LJ was down (I opened all of them before it went down and then took notes in a word doc) and later put in my votes, but I forgot to leave comments on the actual stories themselves, although I did decide to leave comments after each vote so I guess people will read what I said that way.

There were two people with 0 skips listed in the 'haven't submitted yet' list. I think each round we'll lose one or two from not entering and not having skips.

I have 2 skips, but- if at all possible- I'm not going to use them. The reason I signed up was to challenge myself to write out of my comfort zone so I may as well try!

*nodnod* I print them out and read them (so I can make notes for lo, I am forgetful) which means leaving comments requires real effort. I'd love to talk about this week's stroies, but I'm worried about breaking rules, so will hold off...

Like you, I'm trying to mangae without my skips. If I get desperate (if RL intervenes, say) I'll use them, but otherwise, as you say, part of the point is to make it as far as I can without them. If I go out, I go out *shrugs* I always expect to, so I've been nicely surprised twice!

since we've both already voted, if we did in an email, so no one else could read it, it'd probably be okay.

Yeah, RL reasons are the only ones that'll get me not to submit (hopefully). And yes, YAY we're both still in! And both have had a winning story!

X-Men what? Whoa...

Hmm, Josh Schwartz. Some of his work is awesome, like Chuck, and some of his work is annoying, like Gossip Girl. And some of his work is split right in the middle - The OC. Eeeeeenteresting...

Don't know if it's intentional, but the wish list isn't public?

And the not cow is funny :)
