Did someone set fire to Hertford College this morning? I shall be very cross if it was the Bodleian - readers have to promise not to kindle a flame in there and everything. But as I came back from my lunch hour, there were 2 fire engines and one of those engines with a lift on top, parking outside Hertford.

Has someone been playing with matches again?

It was Hertford - when I left there for here, it was 3 fire engines and a fire chief car. No idea what happened, though. I would like for my work still to be there when I get back in the morning, pls!

Probably an interview candidate having a nerve-soothing cigarrette! My neighbour, the smoker, used to set it off regularly in our first year...

God knows how much Oxford has to pay Pyrotec, I think most of the colleges/depts are 3 engine places.
