*buffs nails on shirt*
Do you know what I just did? Do you? Huh?
I just installed VLC on my laptop.
'So what?' I hear you say. Well, my laptop is an Acer Aspire One, which means it has Linux rather than Windows. As someone who's only ever used Windows, I've limited myself so far to just using the computer as is, but I really, really wanted VLC on here. But you have to type stuff into command lines and know what you're doing and all kinds of scary stuff like that. There's no 'add or remove programs' window here (well, technically there is, but it doesn't include VLC). So I had to type the code to run a Fedora update, then type the code for installing VLC.
And yes, that was only 4 words, but when you're used to button clicks, that's scary.
Anyhoo, I am stupidly proud of myself here and am off to find some books to do something to. If I can do this, I can do anything!
*chair boogies*

Date: 2009-01-26 05:35 pm (UTC)I haven't successfully done that, and I've had mine for a year. (I'm starting to think the EeePC made it deliberately difficult to navigate even for a Linux system.) How did you learn the commands?

Date: 2009-01-27 09:30 am (UTC)I think Acer deliberately made it easy, and I found a forum with full instructions. There were also people who encountered the same hiccup that I did, which meant they could get me through that as well. Googling "VLC Acer Aspire One" got me what I needed.
Now all I have to do is work out how to switch desktop icons around and I'm set...

Date: 2009-01-26 06:04 pm (UTC)That VLC link seems to just link back to this post
so I'm none the wiser, as to WHAT you've installed though so I'm intrigued...Oh a media player! Nice.(no subject)
Date: 2009-01-27 09:32 am (UTC)Whoops. Glad you managed to find VLC despite the lack of link. It's a brilliant media player, which will play absolutely any file, regardless of format. Even if it's saved as a Word file, if it's actually got media content, VLC will play it.
