You know, when I read fanficrants, I usually assume that they're picking out the worst of the badfic, and that it's not representative of the whole. In the Criminal Minds section, I think they're hard-pressed to choose. Seriously, who warns for "OOCness"? Not that I don't appreciate it, but...

I'm still completely knackered and have had enough of this now, thank you so much. But I have still been awesome today. The sign on our entrance gate broke, so I made a new one with pictures on, on the basis that our readers have constant difficulty with the swipe system and weren't reading the words, so maybe a picture will be more successful. Oh, and I helped
miss_zedem to get her journal looking something like she wanted and I have a small pink pig sitting on my desk. The last doesn't make me awesome, but it does make me happy.
In sadder news, my MP3 player is really starting to struggle. The battery has been floundering for a while but that's replaceable. What's more worrying is that when I was listening to it earlier on, it kept cutting out, then gave me the message 'playback error' and died. I love my MP3 player! *clings* Because as much as I would love something new, shiny and funky, this one has served me well AND has a radio on it. Expect much wailing and gnashing of teeth when it finally conks out.
Speaking of which: CAR DRIVERS! Always check your side mirror when opening your car door. There could be a cyclist coming past and he could be my husband! He's fine, but his jacket and bike and elbow (how do you get a huge scrape THROUGH a leather jacket and a jumper?) are in bad shape :( We're definitely going to have to replace his cycle helmet, since it's now taken one too many knocks. And he wonders why I don't want to cycle in Oxford. If the buses don't get you, the cars do. And if they don't, a pedestrian will!
I've not managed to contribute much to the Gen battle, but am still disappointed that it's only up to 3 pages. I also think I'm coming down with a cold, so maybe I'll get something written while curled up under a blanket tonight.
All in all, while I still claim the right to be awesome, I'm also pretty grumpy right now. But do you know what's been cheering me up? Opening my inbox to a whole load of comments that begin "I am awesome because..." It's the best kind of high, so come on, people, cheer me up!
How are you awesome today?

Date: 2009-02-19 04:06 pm (UTC)I am about to be an awesome mom and order my son a book on manners for teens, since he appears to have forgotten all the manners for children that he previously learned. Said awesomeness will go along with not strangling him at the dinner table last night.
(I did contribute four drabbles to the Gen Battle, so that's a wee smidge of awesome. Poor gen does not get enough love.)

Date: 2009-02-19 04:07 pm (UTC)I'm currently wondering where I can get a picture of a BARCODE and a SHELFMARK to put on a poster, as my afternoon lot are apparently incapable of writing these things down on the slips. (yes, I know we are antiquated up here...)

Date: 2009-02-19 04:14 pm (UTC)(Yay! Thanks :D Gen is terribly thin on the ground in my new fandom and I'm trying to strike a balance between fannish-entitlement-complex (write what I want!) and being sad that there isn't more for me to read. Hopefully this icon keeps me on the right side of that line ;))

Date: 2009-02-19 04:42 pm (UTC)You are indeed awesome - I hope the sign helps your word-impaired users!
I am awesome because I have written 1500 words of SGA fic today! That, and I also studied for a chapter test, and a kanji test, and wrote a Japanese essay, and wrote up the corrected version of my last essay (which went for two pages - almost 500 characters, which, in Japanese and at my level, is a lot), and attempted cooking a Japanese dish for supper. With no recipe, and very few ingredients. And it turned out almost exactly like I wanted it to! \o/ For someone who was not cooking regularly at all at the beginning of the month, this is a very cool thing.
I'm actually really proud of myself. I also managed to shut down the "I FAIL" thoughts after... well. Failing. At speaking, in class, which I always fail at. But not beating myself up about it is a really important step in getting more fluent!

Date: 2009-02-19 04:46 pm (UTC)WOW! *twirls you* that's a whole lot of awesome, right there! That's a tremendous day \o/
One thing I've found brilliant about these posts is that it forces me to find the positives, even when I think things are terrible. It definitely helps to keep the FAIL-thoughts at bay :) Go you!

Date: 2009-02-19 04:54 pm (UTC)Good to hear your husband survived the evil car drivers - I was talking to my sister last night about how car drivers are useless at noticing bikes. I'm afraid you would've disapproved of me though, back when I used to cycle places :-( It wasn't how my helmet looks that made me fed up with wearing it, it was how hot it made my head in the summer and how I could never find anywhere safe to leave it at work...
I might fish it out tomorrow though and take my bike out. That's planned for my tomorrow awesome.
I like your awesomeness - the most awesome thing about it is that it inspires other people to be awesome too :-)

Date: 2009-02-19 04:59 pm (UTC)Today I am awesome because I got up and did the food shopping instead of killing three hours online. And I WILL be MORE awesome by not killing the entire afternoon. I WILL.
If the gen battle (a) had been last month and (b) included more inspiring prompts, but mostly (a), I'd have written something. Alas. I shouldn't even be on LJ right now.

Date: 2009-02-19 05:00 pm (UTC)don't worry - I won't tell anyone I saw you...
go on, get out of here! *shoos* You're doing great! ;D

Date: 2009-02-19 05:02 pm (UTC)*tuts* Ventilating your skull would not have been a good alternative. Helmets have saved the lives of at least 3 of my friends, and have saved my other half from serious injury a few times. Bike-related awesomeness sounds good :D

Date: 2009-02-19 05:34 pm (UTC)I'm sorry you're still struggling with the tiredness, but glad finding the positive things is helping. It's helping other people too,you know. :)
I am awesome because I made some Vitamin D in my skin! Conquering photophobia, one watery ray of February sunshine at a time. I also watched the first two episodes of Criminal Minds, which has to be done when I am in the right frame of mind, so I feel awesome for accomplishing that too.

Date: 2009-02-19 05:38 pm (UTC)Ouch. I hope your husband's okay, and that the bike can be fixed.
I've been massively grumpy for weeks now, but hopefully the cause of said grumpiness will be over next week.

Date: 2009-02-19 06:40 pm (UTC)I am work-awesome today because I finally figured out a very troublesome column layout problem for the bulletins, which means St. P's will not have to buy the $12 a ream extra-wide paper to print them, at least during Lent. :D

Date: 2009-02-19 07:02 pm (UTC)I already wrote one piece for the gen battle, and I want to write more if I get a chance. There are *so* many different fandoms; it's like a mini-Yuletide!

Date: 2009-02-19 07:16 pm (UTC)BTW, you're awesome for these posts, because they brighten my day. Even if I don't know a lot of the people responding, I find it very heartening to read about the self-love. ♥ Also, I got mail *g* Thank you! :D
Let's see, I am awesome today because for the fourth day in a row, I have brought both my breakfast and lunch, instead of going through the drive-throughs in the morning. And they've been (give or take) healthy to boot. I also wrote 400ish words this morning before work on the fic-that-ate-my-soul, even through I didn't "feel" like writing before my first cup of coffee. And I'm currently rendering out the last of my personally backlogged video projects at work, so I'll be moving on to other people's this afternoon. I'm on FIYAH when I don't have to juggle five things at once!
