While I think of it
This is the crassest of egotism, but these quotes pleased me for different ways and I wanted to put the one that isn't mine somewhere I could find it again:
"How fleeting are all human passions compared to the massive continuity of ducks."
Dorothy L Sayers Gaudy Night
I knew there was a reason I liked them :)
And from my fic, I just wrote:
"he [Jack] wondered how the hell he always ended up like this, with more questions than answers and looking down the barrel of a gun."
Which just tickled me for some reason.
Yes, yes, I know, I'm not nearly in the same league, but my own writing style has ended up so heavily influence by Sayers (and Pratchett - there's a pairing for you), so it doesn't feel that ridiculous. Egotistical, but not ridiculous ;)
Also, we mustn't forget that:
"A facility for quotation covers the absence of original thought."
Also Gaudy Night

One of my favourite things I ever wrote was about (Commodore) James Norrington's voice being able to cut diamond (afraid I don't have time right now to trawl through my fics & find it, but if you're interested, I can do that tomorrow while the niece is having her nap)
