Unfortunately, I got sucked into a Big Bang story and couldn't get out again.

The Centre of the Universe by [livejournal.com profile] azarsuerte (who also turned in some fantastic art, I might add)

Classic Who, New Who | PG-13 | gen with a little Nine/Nyssa | 22,000 words

In the aftermath of the Time War, a wounded TARDIS brings a dying Doctor to the one person who might be able to save not only his life, but also his will to live: Nyssa of Traken.

For anyone going o.O at the pairing, please read it and see. It might not be your thing after all, but on the other hand, it just might. Plus A+++ for Azar's Nine voice, which feels bright and vivid and spot on to me. And yes, you did read that right, I am reccing you a story with a pairing. As I said in my comment to Azar, I struggled with it a little, but she really *sells* it to me, and under the circumstances, it made sense. Do I buy it as a pairing in general? Eh, a little. Do I buy it in the context of this story? Hell, yes.

What's most striking, though, is Azar's character voices - it's in the dialogue that she really sparkles, and every character sounds just like themselves and, most importantly, not like anyone else.

The story draws on Big Finish dramas and some novels (I think) but as long as you're okay being spoiled for them (and there's only a few basic details given away), you should be fine. I loved it, especially the first two or three chapters. Again as I said in my feedback, I would have liked the end of the story to stretch out a little more than it does, but that's because I was enjoying it and wanted more. This is a clean, crisp style of writing, but giving real depth to these characters, drawn together, healing together and working together better than I would have thought possible. It's a great read, and comes highly recommended.
