Drabbles offered to good homes
Apr. 13th, 2007 10:27 amI am immensely chuffed today as "Coming Back" has been recced on
crack_van. It's so lovely - the list is full of great writers and I always bounce to see my name among them! My Housefic "They Also Serve" was recced there a while back, so I'm feeling rather proud of myself :) Now all I have to do is write a Criminal Minds one to match them... ;)
In a burst of creativity, I'm offering drabbles/ficlets to all requestors. Any fandom (see my interests list), any pairing. I'm rather bouncy as The Wandering Years stopped wandering and started behaving themselves so come share the bounciness! I don't promise they'll be the same quality as
fallen_arazil's, but I can try. :)
Also,
rivers_bend told us to consider ourselves tagged...
1. I can play both the descant and the treble recorders (not at the same time) to a fairly decent standard.
2. I can't wash my hair in the shower because I've got horribly sensitive skin and the shampoo makes me itch.
3. I used to be able to say thank you in 45 languages. I think I'm down to about 25 now.
4. I can type around 80 words a minute.
5. Baked beans make me feel sick.
6. I own a Beanie Buddy duck called Mr Pond, who lives on my computer hard drive at work. He was a 21st birthday present.
Like river, I hate tagging people, but love random facts, so post away!

Date: 2007-04-13 12:23 pm (UTC)Can you guess which pairing I want? Go on, have a guess. They're in Torchwood. No?
Okay then, I'd like....Ianto Jones and a made up character of your choosing. You can use one of your OCs, one of mine (I've mentioned a couple of different exes if you've been paying attention, and if not, why not, hmm? ;)), or an entirely new and shiney one. As long as this character bears no resemblance to Gwen, I don't mind - they can be male, female or any shade in between (ooh, that might be fun...no, I have enough plots at the moment, stop it, brain). It can be set any time you like, Ianto can be at uni, working for TW London or Cardiff - I don't care (as long as he's over age of consent - I get slightly icked out otherwise). And it can be as slashy or gen as you like :D
*sits back and waits happily*
Oh and congrats on the rec!!

Date: 2007-04-13 01:06 pm (UTC)Any chance of a drabble about Rose and Gwen, where Gwen remembers being a maid for a funeral home in her past life? Not that I've just started watching Dr Who 9th Doctor or anything... If that's too weird, any Rose fic?

Date: 2007-04-13 01:13 pm (UTC)And the drabble...ok, it's a little weird, but since that's never bothered me before, I'm not going to let it now! Will see what I can do.

Date: 2007-04-13 01:24 pm (UTC)Is it the fragrances or is it the stripping of oils from the scalp? If it's not the products/chemicals themselves that cause the problem, have you tried conditioner washes?
(no subject)
Date: 2007-04-13 01:31 pm (UTC)It's only a problem on mornings when I'm so tired that I end up pitching head first into the bath when I'm trying to bend over it to wash my hair!

Date: 2007-04-13 01:49 pm (UTC)I've rec'd conditioner-only washing to several people with dry skin with great success (I love what it does for my hair), but alas, that's not the problem here. I'll go away now.

Date: 2007-04-13 01:51 pm (UTC)Heck, now I'm wanting someone to write a big long "Nine-Rose-Jack team joins up with the Watch to solve a murder mystery involving aliens". At some point you know somebody would wind up in the scorpion pit. Thanks for winding my imagination up...
Since I never got around to commenting there, I'd like to also add that I love all your TW/DW crossovers, and I really hope you get inspired with more. I think the Jack-Susan was my favorite, especially since you worked the witches in as well! If you go back to them, I'd love to see the first few times that Death meets up with Jack, until he just gives up in disgust.

"What, not ever?"
"Mam…" Ianto closed his eyes.
"What?"
"It's fine." Naseem put a reassuring hand on Ianto's. "Actually, I was on the college football team."
"Not cricket then?"
"Sorry."
"Sdim ots. We can't all be good at everything. Coffee, did you say?"
When she was gone, Ianto smiled apologetically.
"Don't worry." Nas squeezed his hand. "That's the least I expected."
"You're too understanding," Ianto grumbled, glancing towards the kitchen. "She's always like this."
"I like her."
Before Ianto could reply to this clear sign of insanity, his Mam stuck her head round the door. "Have you thought about boxing?"
(for the non-Welsh speakers: Sdim ots = it doesn't matter

Trumps
"A hundred and one."
"A hundred and three."
"Damn." There was the sound of coins moving across a glass followed by the shuffling of papers.
"CPK, fifty-nine."
"A hundred and twelve."
More coins were shifted, this time accompanied by House slapping his file down on the table. "You're cheating, you know that?"
"How?" Wilson waved a hand. "You had free choice. BP one-thirty over ninety."
Mumbling under his breath, House pushed another quarter across the table. "One-ten over sixty. Your patient's way sicker than mine."
"Is that my fault?" Wilson shrugged. "Next time, buy a real pack of Top Trumps."

Date: 2007-04-13 02:46 pm (UTC)Dreams
She sees yellow hair. It's always there, glowing in the dimness of the house that smells of gas and soap and death. It's a constant part of the dream that is as vivid as a memory, sharp and clear, dark as nightmares. There are faces and voices and light, glinting on the blonde hair of a girl who cannot understand and the man whose calm, ancient eyes know more than she does. And she gives herself over to the lights.
There is pain.
Gwen wakes with hope in her mind, screaming with the agony of a woman who isn't her.

Date: 2007-04-13 02:51 pm (UTC)Rose's hair glowing in the dimness of that house is just perfect. I think you captured the feeling of it really well.
And I absolutely adore House and Wilson playing symptoms top-trumps. I don't know if they have TT in America, but I've the Buffy and Angel ones, and I've played Hammer Horror ones, and Truck ones as well since moving here.

Date: 2007-04-13 02:52 pm (UTC)but glad you liked it anyway! It's fun writing happy stuff for a change :) *hugs back*

Date: 2007-04-13 02:55 pm (UTC)Apparently it works even if you don't know TT, so that's ok... I confess to having used the idea in my Torchwood story Truth or Dare, but I figured a good idea's a good idea, right? ;)
I have the Marvel comics ones, which are great fun (apart from the fact that Apocalypse pretty much trumps everyone and they got Gambit's powers totally wrong and...*shuts up*)

Date: 2007-04-13 03:21 pm (UTC)I'm going to compile them into one post once I'm done, but I'll mark this as being part of the Mindreading ficverse. It's always fun to play in other people's worlds :)
