♥ I spent about an hour reading in Duke Humfrey's library last night. It's part of the Bodleian and looks like this. I arrived at 5.30, when the sun was streaming through the stained glass windows and making everything look beautiful. Then, just as I started to read, a choir started singing somewhere, and I honestly felt like I was in some kind of Oxford nostalgia film, complete with my own soundtrack. It was just one of those perfect moments, and I honestly couldn't have been happier. *sigh*

♥ Choir was awesome. Also, cheesier than a fromagier's, but awesome. We've got our Christmas concert on 12th December, for anyone who's in the area. I'll be doing a solo, but don't let that put you off ;)

- I'm very jealous of everyone already on Google Wave, because it looks shiny and exciting. Here's hoping the beta goes well and the rest of us can get in soon!

♥ I have a good feeling about work today, and home this weekend. Nothing I can put my finger on for why, just...an all round good feeling. Of course, that could also be because I've got my little light box on as I type this, and my big one has arrived for home. After some faffing, I think we've come up with a light set-up that's actually going to work for me - a lamp with a daylight bulb that comes on using a timer switch, a little LED light box under my monitor at work, and a big Lumie lightbox for the living room at home. The morning light is especially good, because we keep it on the windowsil behind cream curtains, which means that it's like waking up to a glorious sunrise every morning. Of course, it's a bit disappointing when I get into the living room and it's all gloomy outside, but that's what the big box is for. Here's hoping for a better winter.

♥ I've joined Bookmooch, which was recommended by a friend at work. Books are hard to sell on eBay, so I figure I may as well swap them for books I actually want to read!

♥ After a trip to the doctor's yesterday, I am officially 'fine', if in something of a catch-22 situation. I have a stomach upset, which means I need to be careful what I eat for hte next few days. I also have inflamation behind my kneecap which is intermittently very painful, and for which I should take ibuprofen. Which is notoriously bad for upset stomachs. ...yeah, I'm still working on that one...

So, today I am awesome because I am in a good mood. What about you, guys? How are you awesome today?

\o/ I managed to walk my daughter to school today (she usually walks up with my son but he's taken to leaving earlier than her lately). So that's awesome. I haven't had the energy to do that in a long time.

Also, GWave is very shiny and pretty, and I've used all my invites, but if I get anymore I will add you to the list, ok? :D

That's definitely awesome! It's nice and sunny here at the moment, so I hope you guys had a nice walk too :)

Thank you! That's really sweet of you! I have no idea what I'd do with it, but I do like shiny things ;D

Ohhhh is *jealous* about your nostalgia movie moment.

Google Wave is Open Source? Hooray!

It's a lovely sunny day here, right now, and yes I'm feeling ready to face the weekend. Long may this continue for us *snuggles*

Oh goodness, that library is *gorgeous*. I am in love (or lust at least) and with the choir too, I would have been in some sort of heaven!

Heh, well, if you make it down to Oxford, we'll do the Bodleian tour so you can see it - it's one of those magical places where you almost *expect* a choir to start singing. Oxford's like that ♥

I am so jealous.. Duke Humfrey's library is georgeous. I wish I worked there:(

ooh that reminds me I need to wake up the daylight clock..

The stomach thing, i have IBS..and chronic knee/joint problems which are slightly alleiviated using Ibuprofen. Yes it can cause problems with your stomach. but I find that taking them with food, in particular porridge and other carby/stodge foods helps to act as a "shock absorber" If you can stomach Peppermint tea and or anything with peppermint oil in is also helpful because the peppermint oil helps to calm the irritated digestive system.

I have today off work, I have replaced the cycle that was stolen from me a few months back.. the day is sunny and I feel active.. today is awesomely good.

I'm not big on Peppermint tea solo, but that's a good point about making sure I've eaten before taking ibuprofen. The knee's okay most of the time, but I think I'm going to have to start actually taking things for it soon :S

Oh, Bookmooch looks like it operates the same as PaperbackSwap. I joined back in January and love it. Trying to sell them nets you nearly nothing. This way I get what I want without a lot of trouble or spending as much as I would at the used bookstore.

I'm glad you're officially all right. I hope you start feeling it soon.

*nods* It's very much the same principle - my colleague's been using it for ages, but I'm slowly catching up! As long as I can remember to give away as many as I receive, I should be fine ;)

Thanks - it's a slow process, but I'm getting there.

Oh! Speaking of beautiful light, then... :)

I'm glad you've got the light box and worked out a good setup. I hope it makes a big difference for you this year! (With my different problems I still found that the daylight bulbs are so much better for me, so I've switched to them exclusively.)

Unexpected!choir in a public space is one of the loveliest experiences.

Hmm, I'm awesome because I seem to have ended my long period of waffling and decided to finally shop for a vacuum cleaner. And I have a free weekend to do it!

random stranger advice: shopvac makes a small but excellent version for like, fifty dollars that is FANTASTIC. best vacuum cleaner i've ever owned. sucks up everything including pet hair and kid detrius. (okay, and the occasional pet toy. i think i'm just not careful enough sometimes <3)

Thank you for the advice! I am looking at anything and everything, and I wouldn't have thought to check Shopvac for a regular type of vacuum cleaner.

welcome!
it's not a different type of cleaner - i just use the smallest shopvac available - does that make sense? (that could be what you meant but i'm sorry, i'm tired. *flop*) specifically we have this model here (http://www.amazon.com/Shop-Vac-962-06-00-6-Gallon-3-Horsepower-Vacuum/dp/B00076GI4O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1254801791&sr=8-1) - i call it the Dalek because it's kind of shaped like one and it kind of exterminates dirt. <3

Oh, I see, it is actually a shopvac in that it will intake dry *and* wet. That would actually be very useful even in normal household use!

Hee! That's funny, because I've had my eye on a Hoover that I thought I'd call The Blue Dalek. :)

We'd love to have daylight bulbs in every room, but all the light fittings here are different. Not as in 'they're all unusual from standard' but as in 'they're all different from each other'. Each room has to have specific bulbs, none of which are the standard UK ones. The three uplighters in the living room have three different fittings! It's crazy, and I can't wait to be somewhere that actually...you know...works.

That's much of awesome! Good luck with the shopping :D

That is pretty weird! I don't have that problem, but two of the four rooms in my apartment have non-standard bulb fittings, and one of the ceiling light fittings doesn't work at all, so I took all the bulbs out of those and got some $8 floor lamps that would take a CFL bulb. The only problem with that is with the wiring kind of dodgy, I have a dearth of working outlets to plug in a lamp.

light boxes/sunlamps, etc are amazing. (i need to de-clutter my side table so i can use mine. it's that time of year again all of a sudden - what happened? last week it was 83 and summery and now BOOM it's cool and grey and rainy. not that i mind cool/grey/rainy, although my body is all WTF PAIN OMFG because of the weather change.)
i am awesome today because ... um. i have kept the house clean for three whole days so far after coming back. and given that sean eats like a baboon that's pretty impressive.

I know what you mean about the light change. It's sort of crept up on us since we've had decent weather for September, but I'm really starting to feel the need for more. Hope you get yours sorted out soon - I know mine makes the world of difference.

That's definitely awesome! It's hard enough keeping this place tidy with just two grown ups who aren't here very much!

Nothing hugely exciting. I got a new pair of shoes (these ones (http://www.clarks.co.uk/find/keyword-is-flexlight/product-is-20334077)), a new pair of trainers and some new work jeans. My old ones finally started going through in strategic places.

I spent about an hour reading in Duke Humfrey's library last night.

I'm jealous! It's many a year since I was able to do that. I still have my Bodleian reader's card, but as it's on green cardboard I suspect it's no longer valid...

Ah the catch 22 of dodgy tums & inflammation. My consultant had me on this regime for 4 weeks!:

-Take 1 x 150mg ranitidine (got from doc on prescription or it's the stuff that's in gaviscon tablets) half an hour before food.

-eat then immediately take anti-inflam (I was on voltarol)

-wait ten mins then take two 5ml spoonfuls of gaviscon advance (only available at pharmacy).

Do this twice a day (breakfast and dinner worked best for me). As I say, I did it for 4 weeks (I was almost going out of my mind after the first fortnight).

Alternatively... buy a tube of deep relief (it stinks of menthol but it worked for me - I couldn't use it for this last prob as it was in my throat)/ibuprofen (you can get a stronger one on prescription)/voltarol (which doesn't smell as bad but I'm not sure if it actually worked).

ETA: of course I have to go to this extreme after 3 years of anti-inflams (even taken with food) ruined my stomach :(
