Brrr. I saw that on amazon's wtf list, with the tagline: better a vest from a dog you love than a sweater from a sheep you'll never meet. Also, it was a different cover picture. Which means that there's more than one edition out there

Somehow, I keep imagining Mr. Burns singing his "see my vest" song.

(just how much would something like that stink if you attempted to wash it??)

I LOVE that tagline *dies*.

More than one edition? What a terrifying thought!

Ruh?

How practical! The only problem is how you smell when it rains. (I hope the book comes with its own spindle!)

What? No.

*blinks*

Is it still there? Has it changed?

Oh my.

No. Just no.

It does make you feel a bit like that, doesn't it? There's something not quite right here...

I've known people (haven't talked to them recently, though) who spin dog fur/hair into yarn... and if it's cleaned properly, it doesn't smell any worse than wool. It does have a greater variety of textures, and the chances of it being frustrating are higher, especially if you haven't spun before. So I'd say stick to wool - easier to spin, and you can always get the yarn already spun if you don't want to spin it yourself/can't spin anything heavier than embroidery weight thread.

/end being mildly educational

As for me? Do not want. Wool is just fine.

I imagine it would have to be VERY well washed :S

I'm still slightly boggled by the concept if I'm honest...

It's not uncommon to spin dog or cat fur (combined with sheep or goat fleece) into yarn. You can even hire someone to do it (send them the hair and they'll spin it, even weave or knit or crochet it too)

Okay, the hair scrunchie made out of dog hair is a bit weird.... the mouse toy out of cat hair too. :)

Heh, either somebody wasn't thinking, or they have a very weird sense of humor. That's kind of the reverse of the little cat statuettes I've seen made out of rabbit fur.

There's a very pretty golden retriever mitten, though!

The mitten is lovely. A lot of the stuff is nice, if a bit odd.

Yeah, I think the problem would be when you say, "I made this sweater out of my cat...'s hair" people could get the wrong idea.

Though when I think of the amount of fur I throw out in the yard in a year, brushing out the winter coat of my parents' chow-mix, now it almost seems like a waste!

Hee!

Back when I worked at Barnes & Noble, we had this on our shelves. IDK, I'm not necessarily squicked by it IF there's a way to remove the doggie smell from the hair. Otherwise, EWWWW. Because that's just what we need: a whole bunch of people walking around in sweaters that are not only ugly, but reek of dog.

Check out how much potential yarn you can get from brushing out a Newfoundland dog:

These are very large dogs, so we're talking at least a pair of knitted sofa slipcovers. :D

I know. It's probably a good thing we don't have a dog, despite my puppy longings, but I could almost see him trying to buy dog hair just to try this out.
