Tuesday Weather Report: Sunny, cold and clear.
1. With the Snowflake Challenge having ended yesterday (although there's a friending meme to round it off), I was going to try and write something deep and meaningful here, but my day got busy at 7.50am and hasn't stopped since, so instead, I'm just going for "post something" and leave as many comments as I can. It'll have to do. I'm also working on how I crosspost to Tumblr, because I can't just C&P every time. IFTTT is all very well, but not all formatting comes across, and I definitely want to live in both places.
2. I had the gentlest Health and Safety assessment ever today. The firm we use is incredibly supportive, and (for me) it's not at all like the terror I thought it would be. Mostly, we walk around prodding things and he says it's all fine. Although he did remind me not to lose the step stool checking form again.
3. I am not expecting the budget forecast to be as plain sailing, as I am BAD at numbers, and although I have a very simple budget, I always manage to get confused. This afternoon has been set aside for working on it, so that I get a good run at it without major interruption.
4. Tonight is Pilates again, which I'm looking forward to. After last week, nothing really ached apart from my shoulders, so I'm reasonably sure I was doing something wrong. This week, I'm going to push myself a bit harder.
5. The big news of the day is that (drumroll please) I'm giving myself permission to start a new notebook. That might not sound like much to you, but it's a big deal to me. Last May, I started using a Rhodia Goalbook, which is basically a notebook with a perpetual calendar in the front. I found the whole "write out the month" part of Bullet Journalling far too much like hard work, and it didn't give me the flexibility to plan things months in advance - as someone who can only take Annual Leave during University holidays, that's quite important to me.
I also found that I didn't know how much space to leave for each month, and trying to do it was stressful rather than useful. I'd get a good diary, then want a notebook for just scribbling things down. Or I'd use a small notebook, and want something I could really write in. The Goalbook does both, and I surprised myself by using it consistently and with pleasure for the last eight months, which is a personal record. But it's almost used up, and more than that, I feel I want to make a sort of 'clean start' for the new year. I want my goals and resolutions in the front, and I want to re-layout the way I used the monthly records part of the calendar (use PENCIL, Laura, things change!). As this week (I do weekly plans) is already set up, I'm going to be restarting next Monday, and as a last hoorah, I might use up the last few pages of this one with fic. It won't be totally finished, but that's okay. I feel ready to move on, and have another go at this to see what happens.
If anyone's interested, I'll put up some pictures of the book and my new layout next week. It turns out, I have a lot of Feels about this notebook, so you might get something whether you're interested or not!
5a. In lieu of clever post titles, I'm going to go with a weather report when I can't think of anything else to label my posts with.
In the meantime, I'm off to fortify myself with an early lunch before attempting the budget. I need all the help I can get!

I restarted bullet journaling myself with a much simplified approach to things (daily layouts were my bane) and it's working well so far.

Oh gosh, yes, the daily layouts struck me as working well for the self-employed, but I have a work diary to track stuff day to day there. I do weekly ones for home, as that's a more manageable scale!

(I also intend on coming back post-work with a proper comment, but the paper goods/ organizational obsessions refused to wait.)

I've never done Pilates and never thought I'd want to but now I'm curious, why does it work for you?
NOTEBOOKS. Dude I get ya, I get ya. I picked my last empty Minted notebook (a map of NYC) as a planner for the year and yet I still can't quite... It doesn't WORK, you know? It was gonna be my travel notebook but I never did those recaps. (I never took it with me either because it was supposed to be polished. I picked it as a planner partly becasue I seem to get to the place on the planner cover the year after it's set, see: Paris.) I didn't finish my last Minted planner either, I think I had a month to go? Or maybe I just had pages to go but I didn't get to them because I kept forgetting to use it. Planners are hard, sometimes. I just want one where I can go to town on any given day, and Minted was available, but it was weekly.
I'd love pictures.

Honestly? Pilates appealed because I have secretly always wanted to be a ballet dancer, and I heard that it's their exercise of choice for recovery. It's deceptively gentle, and concentrates on strength and posture over everything else. Once it's light enough, I shall start running in the mornings for the cardiac side of things, but I have all kinds of muscle pain - and judging by tonight's exercises, no muscles at all! - so I'm hoping this will help my back and shoulders.
I know exactly what you mean about a planner working. I've tried all sorts, but this is the first time anything's stuck. I'll get pics when I can!

A bunch of the Darcy Bussell videos seem to be on YouTube, so that could be a good place to start. The key to it is that you keep your core still while you do other things - practicing that stability is what works your core muscles more than anything.
Heh. Yes. It generally helps if you do more than just read!

Also would like pics of notebook. :D

Pics seems to be the consensus - I'll get some at the weekend and post on Monday

CONGRATS ON GIVING YOURSELF PERMISSION!!!
*throws confetti*
That *is* a big deal, and I'm so excited that you could do that for yourself. :)
It seems like the bullet journal concept is best approached from a DIY/ adjust accordingly angle. Personally, I dig the indexing system and creation of visual/color-coded shorthand, and the process of tasks. The month pages aren't something that really works for me - I have a monthly calendar insert and a desk-sized calendar to track time-bound events/tasks. Which is still not perfect, but functions relatively well. I'm so interested to hear/see how the updated system works out for you.
Stickers and washi tape are super useful for covering up re-scheduled events. Also, they are shiny.
I hope Pilates went well!

I think I struggled with the whole 'Bullet Journal' thing, because it seemed to start as a very prescriptive system, but as it grew, it seemed to turn into 'people writing things down'. Which. Hang on. I've been doing that for ages. How is that new? How is this a thing?
I could not get the hang of of the coding at all, and I couldn't be bothered to keep writing the diary out, so the current notebook is the perfect compromise for me. Also washi tape :)
Pilates was excellent, thank you!
