Librarians do have a sense of humour

It's the end of year round up at the moment and so we're not supposed to be processing any acquisitions on the computer system. I just wanted to look up something so absent-mindedly tried to get into the module only to get the following message:

You may not use Acquisitions module
today, Sunday 30th July 2006

... and you're very naughty for trying

*grin* there are days when I love our IT guys.

Hahaha! Of course librarians do!

*grin* We like to think we do, but it's nice when other people get the joke too...

Hehehe very good :)

How's your garden btw? Has the lake subsided yet?

We can see about another foot of grass this morning, albeit still rather waterlogged, so we're hopeful that the worst is now over.

The message above really cheered me up - attention span is worse than usual today (yes, really) so I need all the laughs I can get...

Brilliant :-) My [livejournal.com profile] knirirr has a habit of adding little messages like that to error messages he writes. His old boss didn't like them though, humourless bint.

It's great though! Cheered up my whole morning - and it's not often you can say that about Geac Advance...

I should have realised you were a librarian when I read 'A few quiet drinks' (there's something about Terry Pratchett that every librarian I know adores). Funnily enough, that's the only fanfic ever that I've ever passed on to my big sister - who is a librarian! I'm not ((I'm a nurse, another profession which seems to require a quirky sense of humour) but she does have me in stitches from time to time with her little stories so I'll have to tell her this one, she'd love it!

The Librarian is one of the best fictional characters and an inspiration to librarians everywhere :D And you definitely need to come to work with your sense of humour switched to 'on' - it's the only way to survive a job where you work with the general public...

Hehe! That's great. It's nice when computer messages make you giggle instead of making you want to throw the computer out of the window!

IT with a sense of humor is the best.

My husband designs software and recently was working on something that, during testing, he had set it up return the error message "Hooter!" if it couldn't find what it was supposed to.

He forgot to take that out when it went into production. Heh. When I asked him that day why he had worked late, his face got very red.

I love all the hidden little things that programmers put into things - the flight simulator hidden in Excel etc etc - and always think it's a shame when they have to be taken out. This really made me smile this morning rather than making me worry that I broke the system! :D

*grin* Oh, brilliant. I love little things like that.

(In secondary school, we all had 'Little Miss' and 'Mr Men' nicknames for the yearbook. I was Little Miss Librarian. Go figure. :))

It absolutely made my morning.

*grin* And nothing wrong with that!
