Sorry if it offended you - that wasn't the intention. Yup, butts of the joke traditionally include the Welsh, the Scots, the Irish, the English, librarians, women, blondes, men, the geeky, the dumb, Christians, Doctor Who fans, Star Trek fans...

I don't think any malice was intended by it - Oxford students regularly try to sell each other's colleges on ebay, North and South Londoners constantly prod eachother in the ribs, and someone, somewhere is always making fun of someone. But I am sorry if it upset you.
