Meta: Pacing and Structure

torchwood_meta on structure and pacing in stories. It's something I've been thinking about a lot lately, both in betaing other people's work and in writing my own. In writing it, I discovered that I think it about it both consciously and instinctively, and approach it in a way that surprised me. And possibly confirmed that my mind is a rather odd place to be...
Anyway, it's not Torchwood specific (as I'm not writing much Torchwood at the moment) so people who don't watch the comm may find it interesting as well. I'd love to get a good discussion going on this one, as I found it quite a battle to write.
