jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Cross - Bester *pout*)

It's an odd kind of day today. I had a hospital appointment first thing which was worrying me, not for the check-up itself (which was unpleasant but helped muchly by a matter-of-fact, friendly nurse) but because I always get lost in hospitals. I managed to find the building this time, but couldn't figure out where I was supposed to wait. When I did, and then registered, I was told to go and weigh myself. Since I was third in the queue, there were 2 other ladies weighing before me. Now, I was weighed on Tuesday, and I'm pretty good at pound/kilo conversions, so it was all a bit confusing. According to their scales, I've lost a stone since Tuesday. More worryingly, according to their conversion chart, I've put on 3 stone since Tuesday! You'd think a hospital could manage a)basic maths and b)to have accurate scales. And the consultant (you know you're getting older when the doctors start looking younger...) never even asked me about it. So what was the point of that?

For those of you who want to hear a bunch of librarians making vague squeaking noises, the MP3 of us on the Radio 4 news is here.

So I got into work at 10.15ish, and am now sitting staring at a mostly empty library, trying to find things to fill the next hour. As I threatened yesterday, I'm going to be putting a drabble-fest into [livejournal.com profile] heretoutopia in an attempt to jump-start The Watching Years, but in the meantime, [livejournal.com profile] with_apostrophe had this in her journal, and I thought it looked like a lovely idea. So I nicked it :)

What I'd like for you on my flist to do is to comment with a link to story/meta/piece of art/whatever you've created. It could be your most recent piece, one you're particularly proud of, one that you felt didn't get the attention it deserved, or something chosen at random. What I will do is read it AND COMMENT.

I am good at reading but bad at commenting, so I'd love for people to request things. Plus, I could use the reading material...

*watches the tumbleweed roll past*

EDIT: So, I've just watched the new Torchwood trailer and now I can breathe again (bouncing really takes it out of you) I can stamp my foot, because damnit that's what I was going to have Jack say. *sigh* Still, I think that's more than outweighed by the bounce factor :)

I get lost in hospitals too, I always end up in the wrong entrance (and the helpful signs are never helpful!)

That's a truly awesome meme and I've shamelessly stolen it! If you want to read something of mine that I particularly enjoyed writing you could try Oubliette (http://community.livejournal.com/libraryofsol/47915.html) Which I wrote for Halloween so it's Gen and a bit spooky (but not gory.) It's quite long though...so I'll leave it up to you.

The new trailer is a thing of beauty, I've watched it three times already! I love all the action-y stuff, and Jack falling...wow!

I found the entrance, but couldn't work out where to go!

*adds story to list* Cool, thanks!

How neat to know that your voice is among those warbling away! Actually, it sounds lovely.

I'd had some idea that Charles Wesley was a prolific hymn writer based on the number of his that turned up in the Presbyterian hymnal, but thousands? Wow!

Now, for your meme, the story no one has ever commented on: My Old Familiar. (http://pwcorgigirl.livejournal.com/46098.html#cutid1/) It's a little bit fluffy and unabashedly sweet House/Cuddy.

I was pretty surprised myself. The interviewee from the Methodist research centre spoke at the service as well - really interesting stuff.

I can't believe you have a story no-one's commented on! *heads over there*

OK, you did ask. Constant. I don't know if you did read it at the time, but you didn't comment and it's the fic I'm most proud of, so... :-)

And hospitals are horrible places to navigate in! Totally with you there!

(Haven't seen the trailer yet. Hopefully this evening.)

I think I read it quickly at the time, but I'll go back and have another look.

I had to watch the trailer on my computer, but oh, definitely worth it...*starts bouncing again*

I seem to do the lost in hospital thing as well.

And seeing as how you asked:

http://rachel68620.livejournal.com/15650.html

It's something a bit different, but still Who.

I'm surprised anyone ever gets out of these places again without a ball of string - they're like a labyrinth!

I'll have a look at the story - something a bit different is always good :)

I never get lost in hospitals, but then I've been working in the damn things for 22 years and I now have a 6th sense on how to navigate in what I'm sure are places that are transcendental to time and place... For instance, in an old hospital have you ever noticed that the corridors get longer at night? And if it's built on a hill it gets steeper when you're tired and grumpy?

And as for reading, have a look at this. It's pretty short and isn't much like anything else I've done... http://aeron-lanart.livejournal.com/15987.html

*grin* I haven't had to go in hospitals very much, fortunately, but I can well believe that the building responds to how you're feeling. They just have that kind of look about them.

Ooh, I was hoping for slightly different things - I shall go have a read :)

I've watched the new Torchwood trailer too, and I even found a place to download it, so I've been watching it obsessively.

Give. Me. Torchwood. NOW!

As to a story for you to comment on - that's hard to do, since you're usually so good about commenting on my stuff. Hmmm. Rapunzel - Or Not? (http://crystalfic.livejournal.com/16174.html#cutid1) I know you betaed it, but I don't remember you commenting on it. :)

*grin* I had to download it too. Totally worth it. hee - not long to wait now.

And no, I don't think I did comment *hangs head* I sometimes forget to - you and Z should prod me harder about that! I'll get that rectified today :)

Don't panic! It was a referral from my doctor, more of a 'just in case' than a 'you need to go' - everything's fine! It wasn't fun, but wasn't overly traumatic either, which is about all you can ask for from these things.

I don't usually get lost in hospitals, but I almost always get turned around in malls. Put me down in the woods and I'm fine, but in malls, all that tile, all those corridors, all those doors

Somehow, I am not at all surprised, that hospitals can't work out a consistent way to measure and calculate weight. At least if they're anything like the ones here!

I've just written something I like quite a lot, but it mustn't be posted until tomorrow, so - Kitty Kitty Bang Bang was my Happy Fest fic and was fun to write. But it's kind of long, and your hour may be up by now, so no big deal if you don't get to it.

I'm just the opposite - I navigate by the shops I want to go to!

I shall check out both of your stories. The library is dead dead dead today, so there's lots of time to kill. Hoorah!

I think Jack is very brave. At least one of them is holding a gun whe he says that.

Is it January yet?

[livejournal.com profile] tanarian has a community [livejournal.com profile] traineetimelord where you can write things in oe of her universes. The basic idea is that Ianto went travling with the Doctor, when he came bac he took Tosh and stole the TARDIS in an effort to make Jack and the Doctor sort out their issuses. I worte a couple of things over there inculding Left Behind (http://community.livejournal.com/traineetimelord/1719.html). Which I'm quite pleased with.

I've seen stuff for the comm, but haven't checked it out yet. I'll add it to the list!

I'm sort of stunned by what I did in May for [livejournal.com profile] mmom. Here's my entire list: http://karaokegal.livejournal.com/89198.html
so feel free to pick out one of the ones you didn't read (if you read any.) The one I'm personally proudest of is Teachers Pet (http://karaokegal.livejournal.com/76736.html). I think it's pretty hot (and kinky) and works even if you don't know the source material.

IF (big damn IF) I do it again in 2008, there will be a whole of Torchie solo action going on, let me tell you.
