1. This needs to be an icon. Right now. [livejournal.com profile] nnwest (who provided the link), [livejournal.com profile] miss_zedem and I will be eternally grateful.

2. People keep reccing vids to me, which I'm loving. I'm also going to have to go on a more concerted 'what makes a good vid' hunt, because I like to understand processes as well as products. With words and stories, I know where I am. With vids...not so much, mostly because I haven't seen enough to be able to compare. Should be fun. I shall be hunting down the vidders on my flist anyway, but recs, tips and hints are appreciated.

2a. I have so far enjoyed this one (recced by [livejournal.com profile] seti_drd) and this one (recced by [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal), and am off to look at the ones [livejournal.com profile] rustydog recced last week.

3. I really need a copy of 'The Streets of Ankh-Morpork' to get my Big Bang fic done. It's starting to take shape in my head if not on paper, and that's half the battle. But I'm getting all confuzzled as to where things are, hence needing the map. Jack's story just took a bizarre twist to the dark side, which is fine, but I think the whole thing's going to be darker than I thought. Interesting.

4. Jack has pointed out to me this evening that I don't have a clue what I'm doing with 'The Watching Years' and it's really about time I did. Anyone with requests, speak up now before I make any decisions...

5. I'm umming and ahing as to whether to sign up for Remix/Redux. I think I'm probably too much of a control freak when it comes to my stories to be entirely happy with the process. But it's also an awesome challenge and sounds like so much fun. I'll probably just sign up with Doctor Who/Torchwood (why couldn't they have listed Jack Harkness as a fandom? He has to qualify. *pout*), as that's where my head is right now, and it's where I'm most confident. SGA writers intimidate me something chronic, because they're so damn good and inventive and clever. But it's another deadline, on top of [livejournal.com profile] purimgifts (13th March), [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang (1st rough draft due 16th March) and [livejournal.com profile] sga_genficathon (30th March). I know what I'm going to write for all of them, and Remix wouldn't be due until 12th April and I work best on tight deadlines...Gah! I think I'm talking myself into it, aren't I? *headdesk* I'll decide tomorrow.

6. What with one thing and another (and having seen it last week!), I'd almost forgotten it was Torchwood tonight. We're out, so I'll have to re-watch 'Reset' in the morning before writing the [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_meta post. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it...

That's me. I'm all about the duty and responsibility ;) Have a good day/evening, everyone!

Thank you so much! After typing this, I actually thought to ask the other half whether we actually owned it, and it turns out that we do! Should probably have asked that first...*facepalm*

But thanks anyway! :)

Oooh, requests for the Epic? Oooh... I wished my brain was functioning. What did you plan to write for it? I guess Old School references are obligatory?

*nods* I've been trying to work out what Old Who references fall between 1990 and 2007. Not that many, tbh...

I need to settle what's happening with Hywel, sort out Ianto's back story and introduce the team. Jack's arc is giving me a bit of trouble, but I think if I can figure out the rest, he'll fit into it.

There's always this site (http://www.islandnet.com/~dascott/intro.htm) for all your Who timeline needs... helped me a lot for a series of Jack/Doctor drabbles I wrote some time ago

I have Purim and SGA-gen and I signed up for Remix today, sigh. I figure I work best under tight deadlines too, or at least that's what I'm telling myself...

I really need a copy of 'The Streets of Ankh-Morpork'

I have my copy here! If you want, I can take pics of it and upload for you...

I'm really really torn on Remix. It sounds like great fun, and I'd love to see what someone would do with my stories, but there's good deal of fear in there that I'd get someone I couldn't remix, or that I'd hate what they did with my story... *sigh* I shall probably end up signing up anyway, so I don't know why I'm fussing so much *rolleyes*

Wow, thank you! It turns out that we own a copy (yeah, should have asked the other half first...) but thank you so much! I'll get there in the end :)

...I was going to offer to order the map for you, and use my staff discount to on your behalf, but I see people are offering lends, so yayz. Free is always better than cheap :)

By the by, what's happening with [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_meta? You asked for people to volunteer, and I think only H and I answered, but I didn't get a response to my offer *pouts*

Have a good evening :D

Free is better, but I kind of like the idea of owning my own...how cheap are we talking? ;)

I got a bit *flail* over tw-meta, what with one thing and another. *is bad mod* er...I'll email in the morning :)

Oh, and sorry I forgot to sign out of Yahoo before going out - I wasn't ignoring you! I wasn't there...

I find the idea behind the Remix/Redux thing scary. I'd be too worries about messing up the other person's stories to be able to write anything.

I signed up for the Remix/Redux, too. I did it last year, and it was fun, and ...interesting... to see what a remixer could do with one of my fics.

Plus it generally gives me a chance to write outside my main fandoms...

I'm not sure I'll venture outside Torchwood/Doctor Who/SGA, because I've made that mistake in exchanges before, and ended up having to do something with NC-17 Blakes 7 fic, which was...challenging...

But yes, I am intrigued to see what would happen and what they'd choose.

Who am I kidding? I'm so going to sign up for this, aren't I? *rolleyes*

*tempts you further with virtual cookies*

The only fandoms for which I qualify are DW/TW, anyway. But you never know what the other person chooses.

I ended up doing a Harry Potter/BTVS cross last year, which was also at least half of a 'new' fandom for me to write in (although I haven't written any straight Buffy fics either). Although yes, if the ha only options I get are porn, then I have a bit of a challenge on my hands. But I'll worry about that as and when.

The whole remix/redux thing scares me a little so I'm not going to participate, don't want to see other people writing my stories better than me! I will be watching however as it interests me from the POV of other people's fics.

I have a map available for lending too. I think I have all of them actually...

I shall be hunting down the vidders on my flist anyway, but recs, tips and hints are appreciated.

What a dangerous thing to post anywhere near me :D. In seriousness, if you're looking to dive into vid meta, the weekly newsletter is [livejournal.com profile] veni_vidi_vids. That's not for vid announcements, but a weekly collection of links to meta and thinky thoughts on everything from IP and legal issues to people talking about vid process, both making and watching, and it's pretty comprehensive.

I tend to ramble quite a bit in my LJ under the tag 'vidding', but that's likely to get you a lot further with far smarter people.

Vid recs I can also help out with, but with a limitation. I don't (as a rule) watch vids in fandoms I'm currently vidding in, so I can't send you to very many in either DW or TW. Two off the top of my head though that I have seen and that are AWESOME. [livejournal.com profile] morgandawn did 'Ghost', which is a Nine vid (I saw it before I got into the fandom, hell, it is one of the reasons I decided to start watching) here: http://www.stage6.com/user/morgandawn/video/1662428/Ghost and New Dawn Fades by Nicky, here: http://obsessive24.livejournal.com/197742.html which is an absolutely *brilliant* Ten character study.

I'll, um, shut up now.

Hee. I'd hoped you or Becky would see that :) The newsletter sounds like just the thing I want. I hate not understanding what I'm looking at, and processes interest me just as much as the products, so that should be fascinating, thanks! And I shall also be raiding your journal :D

Thanks for the recs, and I will return with questions as and when I have them!

'reading levels' for vids is always a subject that comes up at VVC and is one I find fascinating, so seriously, I'll be more than happy to blather on with you (at length) any time. Probably until you run screaming 'shut up, shut up, OMG SHUT UP' at me. Vidding is pretty much how I came *in* to fandom in the first place :D
