jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Random - Jack's timeline)

I have watched "Something Borrowed", and while I enjoyed it, I am strangely without the urge to post a response. Except to pass on my thanks to the director who made JB look brain-meltingly gorgeous in pretty much every shot. I think it fried my critical faculties.

For those of you who've trailed through my fic, you might have spotted my Sapphire and Steel crossover story. From the age of about thirteen, I had a crush the size of the TARDIS (inside, not outside) on David Macullum, mostly from 'The Man from UNCLE', which I still adore. I picked up the videos of Sapphire and Steel in the library, solely because it had him and Joanna Lumley (who I'm also a big fan of, thanks to 'The New Avengers') on the cover. And I fell head over heels, all over again. I have the DVDs, and just thinking about it brings up the hairs on the back of my neck.

I still think 'Adventure Two' is one of the scariest TV serials ever made - DO NOT WATCH IN THE DARK! I mean it. My other half and I nearly fell of the sofa we jumped so high - and PJ Hammond, when he can rein himself in, is an incredible writer. I loved 'Small Worlds' last season, and I'd seen all of 5 seconds of the preview before I knew he'd written it. I also have a thing about circuses (blame early exposure to 'Barnum' and a childhood visit to the Chinese State Circus). And Jack back-story.

So, not much to say this week - I need to save it up so that I don't die of squee next week...

the coming attractions were definitely the best part of this episode (although the last three seconds of Jack looking at old photos ranks pretty high there as well). I haven't seen that particular Sapphire and Steel you are talking about, but there is something inherently creepy about sideshows and circuses, especially when presented in weird, out of date sepia-tinted film footage.

(And I LOVE Barnum, its one of my favorite musicals of all time)

The pictures were great - just what I love to get about Jack.

Have you seen any Sapphire and Steel? Two is the one with the railway station and it just chills me, every time. PJ Hammond has an incredible instinct for what's creepy, and how to do the weird without becoming silly. He also makes them very human dramas, even when they're about supernatural things.

Barnum is just wonderful - the video of Michael Crawford in the title role is one of my prized possessions.

Oh good god, the railway station! Seriously creeped out over that one. I haven't watched past that because I keep looking for a good time to be creeped out when people are around. The first one with the kid and breaches in time spooked me too. I didn't want to watch the rest for fear they were all like that!

I can do any other sort of horror genre, no problem. But ghosts, big time creep out!

It has to be said that it's by far and away the scariest of all the 'Adventures'. Three was a bit silly, Five suffered from terrible acting and Six was just nuts. But Four? At least as creepy as Two, and I think he's picked up the theme for the new Torchwood episode... I think they're best watched on a sunny day with lots of people (and the dog!) around :)

Damn, I need a Sapphire and Steel icon...

Perhaps Saturday will be sunny. I now have the dog to protect me. :)

I haven't seen that one, I'll have to see if I can find it through Netflix or whatever. Unless it's too scary?

It's...scary. I recommend watching with the lights on, which was our mistake :) But it's very, very good and definitely worth seeing.

Even while being a shape-shifter? ;) Next week looks awesome, yes

Oh, alright, pedant :P Not then. But otherwise? *brain melts*

The amount of detail just in next week's trailer looks brilliant. *bounces* Is it Wednesday yet?

I watched Something Borrowed, and I thought it was hilarious. Some wonderfully funny moments - Eve Myles pulled off some fantastic acting in that episode. I could even understand all Gwen's motivations. Some lovely moments for all of the cast, relationship-wise - it would appear that Tosh now has Owen twisted neatly around her little finger. *grin*

And I agree with you about next week - I am really, really looking forward to that episode. I loved Sapphire and Steel - if this measures up, I will be a very happy fanwoman. (The grown-up version of fangirl.;))

Eve Myles was just brilliant - really showing what she can do. And I adore Rhys, completely. I love that they've shown why she'd stick with him despite the attraction to Jack. Completely believable. And go Tosh!

Hee. Given the age-level of my reactions so far, I'm going to stick with fangirl... :)
