Date: 2008-04-16 11:21 pm (UTC)You certainly are! I'm amazed at both the volume and quality of what you've been putting up. And you said you've had a sore throat? Now that's dedication!
Do you do anything with your breathing, like concentrate on keeping it quiet, or damping it with Audacity? I can barely hear you draw breaths, but on my recordings I feel like my breathing is distracting. I don't know if it's the recording equipment or a technique problem.

Date: 2008-04-17 07:08 am (UTC)Are you using any kind of barrier between you and the microphone? I have a cotton hankie draped over mine, which stops most of my breathing being heard. There are instructions linked from the
I also make liberal use of Audacity's 'delete' function :)
That's about it, really. It sounds like you're doing plenty of practising - when are we going to hear from you? And if you don't mind my offering, I'm happy to do a 'beta-listen' for you :) You know where I live...*makes encouraging noises*

Date: 2008-04-17 11:26 pm (UTC)The hankie sounds like a good tip, thank you! I read jinjurly's tips on her site awhile before I started recording, but I had never looked at any of the other tutorials, so I'll go do that. One of my difficulties is that although I purchased an external microphone, it doesn't seem to work with my computer, nor with my audio recorder - or if it does, the quality is pretty poor. So I've been just holding up my digital recording device in front of my face, and uploading the files later to edit in Audacity. I have to do noise reduction, and that makes my voice sound a little tinny, I think.
I've been printing off my stories and, after a draft recording, marking all the sentences with stress notations, but I hadn't thought of marking breathing.
I also can't use Audacity on my home computer, so for editing I've just been trying to steal free minutes at work, but that's not very productive unless I stay an hour or two late and dedicate some time. And the weather's been so nice this week, and I'm working on a conference, it's hard to do that! :)
I've got four fics recorded multiple times, and a couple of them edited, but I'm still not satisfied with them. The question is, will I ever be? I suspect not. Heh. I might be almost at the point of giving them up. It's very kind of you to offer beta listening, thank you! Sometime next week is my goal to have something finished enough for other ears, or at least as much as I can get it.
Rest well, and I hope your cold is on its way out, fun loopiness or not! :)

Competitive? Me? ;)
