I'm watching a madman. He's reporting from the levee on the Mississippi at Baton Rouge. OUTSIDE. Seriously, standing on the edge of the levee, trying not to get blown off, talking about people sheltering in their homes to ride out the storm. Shouldn't he be, oh I don't know, sheltering to ride it out? *shakes head* I know that power's out, so we can't expect to hear from folks yet, but stay safe, 'kay. [livejournal.com profile] travels_in_time, I'm thinking firm vertical thoughts for those trees...

I feel like I'm a long way outside the Doctor Who/Torchwood fandom at the moment (SGA folks have been good to me and made me very welcome *gets comfortable*) so I'm watching [livejournal.com profile] apiphile's Whoniverse love meme to pick up the good stuff. Don't let me down, people.

I just updated my audiofic page, since I only have one actual story in my monthly round up, and I only posted that the other day. All the audioficis available from [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur's incredible archive anyway, but I like having my own list too. Then I did the maths and there's 12 and a half hours of fic there. Twelve and a half! Not much SGA right now, but I'm working on it. I hope to hit 24 hours by the end of the year!

While I'm here, I've been thinking about podficcing lately... )

Ooh, and there's now a permanent link to "A World Called Catastrophe", which you should read even if you don't listen to podfic. Just remember the tissues. Or download it from here
jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (*sob* - jack arms folded)
Since I couldn't seem to get myself into gear to really write last week, I did quite a bit of audiofic recording instead. I've got another week off in a fortnight, so you might want to brace yourselves...

So if the last one had outtakes for squeeing, this one had them for choking up. No matter how many times I read this story, it still gets me, every single time. Since they're less fun to listen to, I didn't include them. Huge, huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] perspi for letting me play in her sandbox, and for pointing out when I repeat myself ;)

When I read this story at [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic, I never wanted it to stop. Because it works, so completely that you absolutely cannot see the join. The character voices are spot on, it's funny and sweet and just right in a way that still makes me grin stupidly. Which is tricky when you're trying to read. So even if you're not going to download, go have a read of it. Because this story just can't get enough love.

Also, because I know you like to laugh, I thought I should demonstrate the dangers of reading a story you love. (30 second outtake)

And just for you guys, a tiny outtake. This is fairly typical of the whole story, I have to say, because with 4 narrators and so many words, I found myself tripping on stuff that doesn't normally cause me a problem...

Notes: With HUGE thanks to [livejournal.com profile] perspi, not only for letting me read her work, but for combining her two wonderful stories Within Your Arms and Beneath Your Heart into one single story for me to read. Technically, this has been jossed by S5 canon, but I prefer this version.

Quick Advert
I have a whole bunch of X-men and related comics that I want to try and get rid of before we move, and I wondered if anyone around here would be interested in them. If you're not, I'll just put them on Ebay and see what happens, but I figured some of you guys might have missing issues that you want to replace, or something like that. They're going for £1 each (or make me an offer for bulk orders ;)), plus however much the postage costs, and I'll send them anywhere in the world. My other half has a PayPal account for settling up, which is probably safest for everyone.

The complete list is incredibly long, so it's all in a separate post, here. They're mostly modern era, as well as Age of Apocalypse and some random other stuff. All are in good condition, and are bagged. Some are even boarded. Leave a comment or drop me a line if you want any!

I'm loving reading through [livejournal.com profile] perspi's stories again, and she's been kind enough to let me play with them. So, two audiofics for you - and I highly recommend the stories, even if you're not a listening person.

I've been reading the previews over at [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang, and so far this is the one I'm most excited about. Normally, I wouldn't even consider anything with the label "Sheppard/Weir", but [livejournal.com profile] irony_rocks seems to have caught the Elizabeth I want to read, so I'm prepared to give it a chance.

All I have to decide now is whether my own preview should be the srs bizness that people have put up so far, or if I should try something slightly more random. How exactly do I summarise and choose samples from a story that covers grief, explosions, friendship, obsession, technobabble, true love, dodgy science, mind invasion, the abuse of the Latin language and Grand Theft Spaceship? But isn't a comedy. Any thoughts? Answers on the back of a postcard, please...

Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] bironic *coughs* Only a day late...

I'd half-thought to give you the fic I wrote on Friday as a present, but since you ended up working on that, I decided to go with my original plan:

If someone cancelled June without telling me, I shall be very cross.

I posted my last entries to [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon today, and am actually looking forward to doing some recording without thinking "How many points is this worth?" A prize would be shiny, but mostly, I've just discovered a new addiction. Because I clearly don't have enough to do.

Anyway, the entry is here, with three stories:

Silver Predator by [livejournal.com profile] becky_h [Download Link]
Terms of Payment by [livejournal.com profile] pwcorgigirl [Download Link]
The Oncoming Tongue by [livejournal.com profile] dark_aegis [Download Link]

I'll put them on the audiofic page once I have permanent links for them. And do keep prodding fic in my direction if you want it read - don't be shy! I'm loving reading things, but am not very adventurous in finding stuff, so all help gratefully appreciated, even if it's your own work. Especially if it's your own work, because then I don't have to go and get author permission! :D

Also, because I'm addicted to this too, the "Getting to Know You" meme, nicked from [livejournal.com profile] mad_jaks, under the cut below.

So tell me... )
jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Writing - beware of the books)
The whole "feeling a bit bleh" is starting to make me sound like a broken record, so we'll skip that and get straight to the point for a change, although not before pointing out my very cool icon made for me by [livejournal.com profile] hllangel - have I mentioned lately how cool my flist is? No? Consider it mentioned.

Having had a quick look at the maths, it looks like I'm going to come third at [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon, which considering I had a week where I didn't record anything at all, is pretty good going. There's over 8 hours of audiofic on my page now (see sidebar for link), and I'm going to settle down to some longer stuff once the competition is over and we're back from holiday. I have this vague notion of recording 24 hours of fic before the end of the year, but we'll see what happens.

In the meantime, huge thanks to all the authors who kindly let me play with their fic. It's been an absolute joy and pleasure.

In other news, I'm have a feeling that my [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang is a story I want to have written, rather than one I actually want to write. This is also because the [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang (2 weeks to the grand opening - wheee!) and TimeStamp meme stories have woken up the Jack in my head again, and every time I start thinking about stories, he's the first person I think of. So. I'm going to give it 24 hours, and if I still don't have the inclination to write the SGA story, I'll drop out officially and concentrate on Sic Transit Tempus and Audiofic.

It's all go here, isn't it? *rolls eyes* How's everyone else? Hope your Mondays aren't too unbearable.

ETA: Something [livejournal.com profile] joanna_may said in a comment on my Doctor Who post has got me thinking, but since that's not my strong point today, could someone help me out, please? Cut for speculation, spoilers like woah, casting notes and DW S4 )

jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Default)
Cramps and nausea. The perfect way to start the day. To be fair, I'm feeling quite chirpy in myself, which makes a nice change. I just feel like my body is telling me to stop, right now, or else.

I have one thing I need to do today, which is going to take me a few hours, but then I'm going home to my duvet and hot water bottle.

Fortunately, I have a Doctor Who audiobook to make those hours bearable, as well as *drum roll* More audiofic! The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] rustydog has recorded two more of my SGA stories, and they sound brilliant. Links etc below, as well as to her [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon entry, so do go and tell her how awesome she sounds. Because of the nature of audiofic - in that people aren't usually listening at their computers - not much feedbacking goes on, even less than happens for normal fic. So one of my resolutions is to track down the readers of the fic I've enjoyed and tell them so. Care to join me?

I've just posted 4 podfics to [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon, mostly Gen, all an absolute joy to read. Huge thanks to the authors. Cross posting to [livejournal.com profile] tw_audiofic and [livejournal.com profile] sgapodfic.

The Dancer from the Dance by [livejournal.com profile] daeger [The Persian Boy; Gen]
Can I get there by Candlilight by [livejournal.com profile] nightdog_barks [SGA; Gen]
Like Breathing by [livejournal.com profile] penknife [Star Wars, post-ROTJ; Gen]
Time to Forget by [livejournal.com profile] miss_zedem [Torchwood; Jack/Ianto]

My list of stories to read is getting shorter, so if you have any offers - I'll read anything up to PG (because I'm afraid I cut out swearing when I read, so if you'd rather I didn't, it's probably not the story for me), nothing too explicit, and up to about 5k in length for the moment. My list of epics for future recording is getting longer, which strikes me as ironic. Anyway, I'll tackle any of the fandoms on my interests list, so suggest away - do offer your own stuff, or suggest an author I might like but don't know. Not everything I've tried has worked, but I promise to try!

If you're on my flist and have given me permission to play already, I shall also be working my way through your back catalogue :)

Links etc under the cut )

I'm currently looking in the wardrobe, working out what to wear to see 'Singin' in the Rain' at the cinema. Gene Kelly on the big screen. I may swoon. Unfortunately, it's only a Vue cinema, not something like The Rex, which means I shall spend the first ten minutes thinking that it's all too loud, and the rest of the film trying not to recite the words. Can't wait :D

If only all Mondays were like this...

I owe people emails, fic and other things, I'm sure. They're all on a list somewhere and I shall get to them, I promise.

Fic etc

So, after a period of emotional instability, my body decided that what it needed was physical instability, just so I had the full set. Cut for boring 'I'm sick' stuff )

Given I had the whole day alone in the flat - although [livejournal.com profile] miss_zedem dropped in via IM to cheer me up like usual :) - I'm feeling a bit restless and ansty. Combined with my complete inability to string two thoughts together, I'm getting frustrated, want to write and can't seem to. Therefore, I thought I'd fall back on my old favourite, the Time Stamp meme. There's a whole pile o'fic linked from the sidebar, so feel free to choose anything you like. I'm going to crosspost to [livejournal.com profile] heretoutopia, but do go for an SGA story if you'd rather. I can have a go at Housefic, but to say I'm a bit rusty would be an understatement...

Wording for anyone who wants to nick it:

Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

Since I had to sit up to have lunch, I decided to record a couple of stories. One Torchwood, one Winnie the Pooh. Yes, really. Huge thanks to the authors as ever.

Also, PLEASE could someone else start recording some Torchwood fic, or encouraging people to cross-post to [livejournal.com profile] tw_audiofic? I seem to be the only one with time to record and post at the moment and I'm getting embarrassed about the number of times I've posted to the comm. If you see something in my TW collection that catches your eye, please drop me a line! I'd love for people to have a go at me stuff. It's really not as hard as it looks - if I can do it, anyone can... Obviously I've recorded some myself, and I'd like to record the main 'Sic Transit Tempus' stories at some point, but everything else? Just ask!

This way to audiofic )

It's absolutely tipping it down here today. Do you think it knows that I'm going to have my hair cut? *glares at weather*

Before I fell asleep in front of the computer last night, I managed to get some stories recorded. They're slightly longer than usual, and took even longer to record and edit. I plan to start recording some really long stuff (yes, [livejournal.com profile] travels_in_time, this means you ;)) once the Amplificathon challenge is over and I feel I'm up to it. I had a bit of trouble settling last night, so I did some audiofic recording instead.

As you do. Links go to [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon for the moment, and I'll update my complete listing (link in sidebar) at some point today.
