Cramps and nausea. The perfect way to start the day. To be fair, I'm feeling quite chirpy in myself, which makes a nice change. I just feel like my body is telling me to stop, right now, or else.

I have one thing I need to do today, which is going to take me a few hours, but then I'm going home to my duvet and hot water bottle.

Fortunately, I have a Doctor Who audiobook to make those hours bearable, as well as *drum roll* More audiofic! The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] rustydog has recorded two more of my SGA stories, and they sound brilliant. Links etc below, as well as to her [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon entry, so do go and tell her how awesome she sounds. Because of the nature of audiofic - in that people aren't usually listening at their computers - not much feedbacking goes on, even less than happens for normal fic. So one of my resolutions is to track down the readers of the fic I've enjoyed and tell them so. Care to join me?

In the meantime:

I now have the Spice Girls going round in my head - stop right now, thank you very much - I need somebody with a human touch... *glares*

I should be more worried than I am that I didn't have to look up the lyrics to that song *rolls eyes*

Glad you're having fun with the audiofic. It's not something I've been able to get into, but I'm pleased you're enjoying it :)

Hope you manage to get through the morning okay *hands you paracetamol and fluffy blanket*

...okay, the song didn't even cross my mind, so that's all your fault :P

The audiofic is much fun - very shiny because it's new. It'll stop being fun eventually, but I was already addicted to audiobooks, so I stood no chance at all :)

I'll get there, especially if I keep reminding myself that I can leave any time I want...*wraps self in blanket* thanks :D

did you see at amplificathon that someone recorded a House story worth 38 points? Wowsa.

I can't believe you're going from one bigbang to another! Yipes!

*g* I remember when that story was first posted - the author's brilliant! I have one in mind that might catch it up, though...

I can't quite believe it either...but I'm going to! And I'll have 2 weeks after it's due in to get my Remix story done, which should be loads of time :D

I read the story but haven't downloaded the podfic yet- it is quite funny. The only time I can think of I've seen various roles an actor's played interaction in a way that made sense. But that's crack for you.

Your ability to crank the fic out like that amazes me.

*snort* I'll take that as a compliment...

I'm a bit stuck at the moment though, on one of my timestamp fics - not one of yours, which I'll come back to since you've already had one ;) but my SGA story. Do you think you could you give me a prompt, please? Just a word or a phrase or a lyric or an object or *something* that I can use to prod the story into life? I'm better at reacting than coming up with these things on my own...

It IS a compliment!! Or I meant it as one anyway.

Holy cow! I missed that. ::boggles:: Did it go through a gajillion pairings or something?

*g* Some poeple aren't so much House fans as Robert Sean Leonard fans, and boy, does this story show it :) It's very, very clever and so much fun.

I think I've found one worth 28, so we shall have to see if I can pull it off...

Oy, cramps. I hope the work goes (has gone?) quickly and you can snuggle up with the water bottle soon.

Me too! I've been grateful for the way Jinjurly's site is organized, because it makes it easy to find places to leave comments, or easier than scrolling back through the Amplificathon main page. I have several more fics and authors to track down. (Thanks for the rec! ::blushes more::)

I came home and snuggled up with the microphone ;) But I'm having fun and it took my mind off the pain. Now I just have the nausea, which is a step up, I guess...

I'm not sure where comments left at the audiofic archive end up, so might track people down at their journals. As you say, the amplificathon page is kinda hard to navigate - one of my suggestions in the poll was adding fandom tags for next year, so that people can find what they're looking for!

And you're more than welcome - thank you for making my stories sound so good!

Now that you mention it, the Jinjurly archive is best for finding authors' fic pages, so I've used it for that, but not for readers' journals. Since the main reader I'm tracking down is you, and fortunately I know roughly where to find you, that's been okay so far. :)

    Good idea about fandom tags!

I have a fluffy blanket and a wireless laptop - they make a good substitute :)

I'm actually having trouble finding stuff I want to listen to, or people whose readings I enjoy. I think I'm going to have to branch out into new fandoms, which is scary, but could be fun. So far, I've resisted SPN, along with Due South, but with the gravitation pull of my flist, I'm not sure how long that can last...

Good grief! I just looked at the [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon standings! Way to go!

I listened to [livejournal.com profile] rustydog's reading of 'Finding Their Way' this morning in the car. Excellent job by both of you! I hadn't read it before... since I wasn't much into SGA fic before. It's sucking me in--like I need another fandom to read! ;) I'll certainly be grabbing the new recordings when I get home.

Hee. I feel it's only fair since you guys sucked me into Due South. And it's a fabulous recording, isn't it?

TBH, my audiofic page scared me when I updated it, because I absolutely do not remember spending that long talking...

*goes to look at standings* SQUEE!! I'm so competitive it's embarrassing, but I'm determined to catch her up! I've found a 28 point story, which might just be the ace up my sleeve *plots*

Alternatively, I could get a life, but I'm pretty sure that's overrated ;-)

Lives are terribly overrated. ;) I've been grabbing whatever SGA and DS fics I can off the audiofic page. Especially the longer stuff. I don't have time to read it, but I have plenty of time for people to read to me now. :D The problem is, when I get to work, I don't want to turn it off!

Yeah, I haven't started on the DS stuff yet, because I have a feeling I won't be able to stop...

I definitely have some long stories on my post-[livejournal.com profile] amplificathon list, because, as you say, there's not always enough time to sit at the computer with them. Not sure how I'm going to manage it yet, but there are some great epics that I want to tackle :)

I don't know anything about audiofic, but I went to [livejournal.com profile] amplification out of curiosity. What do the point values mean?

    (no subject)

    Date: 2008-05-21 06:13 pm (UTC)
    From: [identity profile] jadesfire2808.livejournal.com
The idea of the community was that by introducing some competition, more people would be inclined to contribute. The points are earned from 3 categories, a+b+c:

a - 5 points for reading a fic. Everyone gets this

b - 5 points if it's your first ever recording, 2 if it's your second-fifth and 1 for everything past your fifth.

c - fandom and pairing. There's a list of fandoms that were in the Audiofic Archive to begin with, and the most common pairing (gen counts as a pairing in this context) within each fandom. For fandoms, if it's not on the list, you get 3 points, if it is on the list, you get 2 points, and if it's SGA or Due South (the most common fandoms in the archive) you get 1 point.

For pairings, it's the same principle - 3 points for an unrepresented one, 2 for a represented one, and 1 for the most frequently represented one.

So it cunningly targets hyper-competitive people like me, who go looking for under-represented fandoms, and record stories for the Archive for them. I'm not sure what we win yet, but I don't really care - I'm having fun and doing well. That's what matters :)
