Doctor Who reaction later - people seem to vary widely, and I want a bit of distance from other reactions to work out my own.

In the meantime, my meme addiction has been suffering, and this one (gakked from [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal) seemed appropriate. Because do you know how much of my [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang fic I wrote on holiday?

Any guesses? Any at all?

That's right.

None. Nor did I write the couple of Torchwood fics that are bouncing off the inside of my head. It's taken me a week to put my brain back together after the stress of the last month or so, but I feel like I'm finally groping my way towards a plot that will work and give the characters something to do that doesn't feel trite or stale or contrived. And I'm blatantly nicking some structural/plot ideas from my [livejournal.com profile] tardis_bigbang story (going live tomorrow! woot!) but it's mine so I'm allowed :) I'm giving myself this week before I admit defeat, but I'm a bit scared that my Torchwood-fu has also vanished, and I'm not going to be able to write that either. It's going to be a wibbly week.

Anyone care to give me a hand to get going?

Impromptu Pep Talk Meme

This is, er, not a love meme. Not in the traditional livejournal sense of the word. Basically it's a Pep Talk Meme for writers/icon makers/vidders, whoever. You can put your username here or you can out someone else's username here and people drop little peptalks about your work in comments. For those of us who can do it, but just need a little pick-me-up now and then.

My Thread

I don't need a pick-me-up so much as a block and tackle, and possibly a crane, but this would definitely be a great help. *bats eyelashes becomingly*

Ouch, sounds like you've got a bit of burn-out there - I've had that before when I've had to throw myself at a huge and complex project with a deadline attached. There's a period where you just can't quite seem to get a grip on anything storylike, but it does pass after a while. My advice would be not to force anything - which may not bode well for the SGA piece! - and just jot down whatever comes to you as inspiration. If you try forcing out something that you just don't have the inspiration for, you're likely to feel unsatisfied with the result and just make the problem worse.

Things will come back. But that sense of having a deadline hanging over you isn't going to help at all. In your position I think that I'd quit the [livejournal.com profile] sgabigbang piece (it's not like you can't finish and post at a later date, after all, and you may well find that without the SGA thing hanging over your head, the TW inspiration will pop right back!) and try doing shorter bits, maybe drabbles or ficlets or whatever. I'd understand if you didn't want to do that, though, having come this far!

You're absolutely right, and it will pass, I'm sure. But I am terrible at writing without deadlines, and at least part of my problem is that the SGA Big Bang one still feels a long way away right now. If it was next week, I'd probably be able to just sit down and write. As it is, I keep faffing with the idea, rather than just writing it. It's half burnout, half general laziness :)

The idea is there, it's the words that won't come, which is exactly what happened with the Tardis Big Bang one - I ended up writing 20k in 4 days, which was...an experience...to say the least, but I'm pleased with the results.

Thank you, though - I do need reminding sometimes that I don't have to do everything :D

One kick up backside duly delivered in other thread :D

But I agree with aeshna - you worked so hard on your TW bigbang story, it's not surprising your brain's having a bit of a wibble. Why don't you do something really different to give yourself a rest - write some House!fic, or SG1 drabbles, or something original...

*cuddles* It'll be fine...

*snort* Knew I could rely on you. You're right, it's mostly my usual "I can't write!" wibble, that I'm sure will sort itself out once I can get some words on the page.

Brace yourself...I'm going in ;D

You certainly still have some time before you need to make a proper decision on your SGA bigbang. And writing while on vacation? Not surprising at all that you chose relaxing instead.

Deep breath, kiddo, you can do anything if you put your mind to it!

I...might be able to. Time will become an issue, and with a full weekend, there are doubts, but we'll see what happens. I'm not beaten yet!

*takes deep breath*
