I recommend Oxford at the moment, BTW - it's showing off in the sunshine.

*winces* Yeah, that's a pain. But don't underestimate the problems that burn out and putting too much pressure on yourself can cause. The more you write, the more you find you want to write better, not just more, and that slows you down again. I find that taking a breath, stepping back and working out what I really have to write helps a lot, just to give me the perspective and room that I need. And not giving up writing completely, even if you throw away everything at the end of the day. If you persevere long enough, you'll get there.

I think I'm the opposite on long stories, because unless I give a story my whole attention for a sustained period, it doesn't happen. My SGA Big Bang is wandering because I'm writing it too slowly - I need to pick up the pace if I'm going to finish on time with something that I don't hate! Relax and just keep writing - it'll come.

when's the big bang due?

I keep trying. If I haven't written anything in a few days I wander LJ looking at the prompt communities till I find something. I have quite a number of abandoned drabble prompts living on my hard drive

The draft is due on 14th July - it should be good enough to go, but the actual final deadline is 28th July. My current schedule in my head is to finish Part 1 today and tomorrow and get it to you, Z, Chrys and probably A N Other for beta, while I start work on Part 2. That's assuming John's happy for me to do that *glares at him* I want to have Part 2 done by 7th July, so that you've got a good few days to go through it and get it back to me, and I can stitch it together in time for the deadline. Then I'm going to write my gateverse_remix story (I know what I'm writing, I just need to go through the original again - should be no more than 2-3 days), then I'm going to give the whole thing a final polish and I'm done. *falls over*

It's incredibly demoralising when things just won't come, but that's the bit where you've just got to keep plugging away - it'll come back if you keep at it!

hee. But TARDIS Big Bang didn't have the potential for nearly 150 stories... Still, I'm glad we were able to be as flexible as we were. It's odd, the spirit of Doctor Who seems to infect the challenges - Hllangel is American, but it felt like a very British contest. Everyone was terribly sporting, it was well-organised but had a small, family feeling, and a vaguely bewildered air about it some of the time :) We were happy. We also learned a hell of a lot! The SGA Big Bang is HUGE and very much like the fandom - it feels much more professional, whereas I feel more like a talented amateur...

I need to look at my word counts again, and figure where I need to be when. I also need to figure out what the hell the plot is trying to do, because if I'm baffled, everyone else is going to be as well!

ah, that's true. I wonder what ratio they have of sign-ups to completed works. Tardis had about 1/4 complete, right? That was a whole lot of fun. And a lot of good stories came out of it.

the author figuring out the plot is probably a good idea. *nods* I have faith in you!

*nods* I think we had nearly 100 people sign up and 23 complete, which we were chuffed with. I had an absolute blast, and am already starting to think about next year :)

Heh. Glad someone does. I think my characters are starting to doubt me...
