[This post brought to you by the over-exhuberance of a happy writer]
I'm writing Jack-fic again. I'm trying to remember why I stopped because he's just...there. You know? Like looking for words and finding them, I reach for the character voice, and it just works. It flows and the plot's there and everyone else's voices work better and it just works. I don't even care that the story makes no sense yet. It's going to because it's Jack
*gets comfortable* Oh, I'm going to enjoy this one. I'm...content with my recent pieces, but I don't think I'm as happy with them as I'm going to be with this.
Oh, and I've decided to stay in Last Fic Writer Standing, for this round at least, because Outsider POVs I can *do*. It's all good :)
Anyone else written anything they're really happy with lately? Come and share the bouncing!

Date: 2008-10-29 06:25 pm (UTC)*beams* It's awesome! I mean, it's not quite 'Gone With The Wind', running-up-the-path-to-Tara in terms of reunions, but definitely getting-Rose-back-from-the-Daleks standards ;)

Date: 2008-10-29 06:41 pm (UTC)*bounce* I finally got to one of the main climactic scenes of a long SGA fic I've been working on since January - no action, just a dramatic confrontation, but it works, I think. And it was one of the first scenes I ever had in mind, so finally getting to it feels like an accomplishment (now I just need to get to the END!)

Date: 2008-10-29 06:46 pm (UTC)WHEEEE! That's so cool! I love that feeling - I usually start with a particular scene in mind and no idea how to get there, and it's so wonderful when you can just feel it click. Good luck with the ending!

Date: 2008-10-29 06:53 pm (UTC)What I have written lately (mostly drabbles) fill me with moderate joy. I want time to work on my stories in progress. My Jack/John story is stalled... or pausing... and I need to get back to others which I am happy to think about and hoping to finish, like, yesterday.
I'm trying not to be discouraged about my writing. Finishing something will make me feel better about all of it.

Date: 2008-10-29 06:57 pm (UTC)Moderate joy is better than no joy. And it'd be great to see the Jack/John one finished - finishing things is definitely good for the soul :D

Date: 2008-10-29 06:56 pm (UTC)And also there was mention of space, and pirates, and ... let's just say it sounds REALLY familiar to me right now, because the thing I'm currently most pleased with is along those lines. But it's Wilson and House, and it's a Black Cigarette Collective project; maybe you've seen it.
It's such a wonderful scary feeling when these insane story ideas just hijack you, isn't it? Like ... can I really get away with this? Am I on crack?

Date: 2008-10-29 07:14 pm (UTC)The pirate AU one is seriously cracked out. I'm just going to dash off a snippet for the Halloween party, then follow up in December, I think, because I want to make sure I do it justice :D
And it's amazing what you can get away with if you do it with a sincere smile and a sense of drama ;)

Date: 2008-10-29 07:23 pm (UTC)I'm in the process of writing a probably-not-as-unique-as-I-think-it-is outsider POV piece that I hope I can have up by Halloween :D The character voice is surprisingly smooth and familiar (which frightens me a little considering the narrator). Actually, the only thing that's frustrating me about it is that it is almost completely pronouns due to the narrator's, ah, unique world viewpoint.

No I haven't written anything I am really happy with recently. Totally terrified of on the other hand? Yes.

Date: 2008-10-30 08:46 am (UTC)I think what I'm enjoying about this isn't writing Jack so much as writing the Ninth Doctor from Jack's perspective. I don't write (or read) that much Ninth Doctor fic, but Jack's voice comes so easily that he's a good choice to make it work.
Continuity? Torchwood has continuity? Wow, who would have guessed? ;)
