jadesfire: Bright yellow flower (Happy - Jack ooh)
[personal profile] jadesfire
Over the weekend, I composed two posts about Genfic - the first was too whiny for public consumption and the second was too rambly, so they're staying privately locked while I try to sort out what I actually want to say, instead of just moaning that the stories I want to read don't seem to have been written or that there aren't enough people writing just for me.

In the meantime, I'm gradually slipping back into the Whoniverse. As a preface to that, if anyone has any good River Song fic recs, or just 'must read' Doctor Who stories, I'm collecting them for [livejournal.com profile] darsynia - I've already recommended all of you to her, so please point me to people I might not know about!

Also:

Tardis Big Bang Round Two!

We kick off in a week or so - time to start thinking!

THERE you are! *tacklehugs* I was starting to think you'd fallen off the face of the Earth...

I haven't got any River Song recs, sadly, but I want to know about it if you find any. The library one was repeated last week, and I'd forgotten how much I loved those episodes.

Hiya. Yeah, I've been doing my best hermit impression lately, for the usual reasons, sorry :S

I enjoyed the library episodes, but I loved River more, so I'm looking forward to finding any recs that people have.

Enjoy your day off!

*pets your icon* So cute!

Any chance you're going to be able to get on Yahoo today? I feel like I haven't 'spoken' to you in ages...

Ditto!

Um. Maybe this afternoon? I'll have less guilt if I've actually achieved something by then...

*grin* It's like my fall-back fandom. The others are shiny and distracting for a while, but in the end, I always come back to Jack :)

*hugs back* Hope you get a nap later!

I do have a fic series rec, if looking for something cracky and highly entertaining. It's the "Yours, Mine, and... Ours?" series by [livejournal.com profile] robling_t. The entire thing has its own LJ com at [livejournal.com profile] whackoaumuse, as well as being on Teaspoon here.

It is the only series where I've ended up ignoring the uncertainty of where any individual story will end. Because each chapter is an almost-stand-alone short, and all of it's tied together with the sort of messy timelines one expects of the Doctor and Jack and other time-travelers.

I will warn that there's mpreg (Jack, twice. The Doctor being bloody strange with technology), and kids in the later stories. No explicit sex, but it's not glossed over entirely, either. Some violence, messy timelines, plot twistier than a corkscrew in places.

It's good, and funny, and while it can be an easy read, it can also be something that makes one's brain hurt with thinking and trying to figure out how the timelines work.

Order of the main stories is, from what I remember, "Two Can Play", "Never Say Never Again", and "Voodoo Child". There's also a bunch of single-shot side stories, and a twenty-chapter aside for Owen and Andy, "A Journal of the Plague Year".

Much appreciated!
